Samsung Galaxy S6 vs HTC One M9: Turning the Tables

For me the problem with the HTC is camera and processor (not HTC fault).
If they had a decent camera with OIS and even used 805 or 808 instead of 810 it would have been great. Samsung always did well in the camera department but design and materials were their problem. They caught up in that department and you can argue which is better design but now it's an argument, earlier HTC was a clear winner. Unfortunately, HTC didn't catch up with Samsung in the camera department and they are not even close. I hope their problem is camera software and can improve them soon. They will get slaughtered in sales if they don't turn around soon.

PS: uh oh coverage is pretty cool, like the fact you get free replacement if you break or $100 off next year if you don't use your replacement.

I had to leave the HTC family because of their terrible cameras. Been with the Note 4 and haven't looked back. Samsung may have their quirks, but they are never boring and their cameras are excellent.

Do yourself a favor and get yourself a real camera, like the Sony a6000, a nice and compact camera that is worlds ahead of your smartphone camera.

I had to leave the Samsung family because of their terrible sound quality, not so good build quality, huge amount of bloat apps, rubbish external speaker, terrible lag and horrible touchwiz.

Is this a quirk? I hope you are not on T-Mobile or at least that is the excuse people are making for the horrendous battery life that is becoming evident. If you meant never boring because you have to find the battery draining Waldo instead of enjoying the phones features and camera then you are correct.

Got the M9, I'm happy. Idk why do many people try to convince others that this phone or that phone is the one to get, just let people get whatever phone they like and don't bash em on it. I could never stand Samsung, had the nexus 5 for a year and came back to HTC. The battery life is amazing, I get a full day usage 12 hours average between texting, email, phone calls, web, various apps like weatherbug updating every 2,/3hours (running on T-Mobile). The software is solid, sense is as great as ever. I honestly prefer it over touchwiz and even vanilla Android, the speakers are amazing, the front facing camera is better then a lot of back cameras on phone, I don't see anything wrong with charging time and as far as the phone getting hot I don't see anything different from how hot the M7 or Evo LTE got, actually it happens less. people tend not to put 2 & 2 together, metal will conduct a little heat and make it feel warm you want to talk about overheat go use the HTC touchpro 1 that used to get so hot from watching 1 two minute YouTube video I could cook an egg on it, no seriously I couldn't hold it is got so hot. Now I am disappointed with the main camera, it comes out smudge the xda settings improved things a little now I'm waiting on HTC to send a software update to fix it. Did I miss anypoints? There is my short unbiased review so of you like it get it of not then don't stop bashing people on their intrests in phones.:)

12 hours isn't a full day unless you are married with children and you stay home after work. Unless you're kids are in activities of course and you become of taxi driver for them. If you still have a life and go out right after work or still have an active social life, 16-18 hours would be considered a full day.:)

I think it is human nature to bash others for not making the same choice in smartphone selection, since for some it reinforces their justification in making their purchase decision. Personally, I've owned an HTC One M7 for the last 2 years and was planning to upgrade to the M9, but after reading numerous reviews on the latest flagship phones have decided to go with the Samsung Galaxy S6. The majority of reviews were positive, and it seemed to have more advanced upgrades and changes when compared to the M9. A!so I wanted something different which was a big factor in my decision to switch brands. I still love HTC phones, and hope to possibly switch back when I upgrade again in 18 to 24 months. It really comes down to personal preference, and you need to pick a phone that makes you happy and fills your needs (and not worry about what others are buying). My two cents....

Well then you might want to look into the S6. Bloat, build quality, lag, and touchwiz issues have all been addressed and these are some of the issues that drove me towards the M7 and M8 to begin with.

Some people don't want to carry around multiple devices that have the same functionality their smart phones have. That's what the Note 4 offers him. A great camera in a small package.

Aren't HTC fans doing the same thing though on these forums? When early reviews came out, people were saying the software isn't final and blaming potential issues with the processor. Now with early user reviews, people are questioning whether or not the device is defective or if it's a lollipop issue. It's clear that this generation, both the S6 and M9 just have lower battery life than the S5 and M8. Instead of people making excuses for both phones they should accept reality.

Anyways as a former M7 and M8 user, I am loving the S6 which I received last week. After the S4, I figured I would not be going back to Samsung for a long time, but they definitely got it right this time. The only thing i'm missing from my M8 is the battery life, but according to reviews, both the S6 and M9 have lower battery life than the M8. I'm willing to give the S6 a pass due to higher screen resolution, smaller battery, but better charging options. The M9 on the other hand has the same screen, bigger battery, updated processor, but some how lower battery life? I really don't understand that.

Are you up, out and about 18 hours a day? For some strange reason I doubt that, here I'll give you a break down of my day during a work week.

5am: wake up go to the gym track my workout with my phone, moto360, jawbone up24,

7am-530pm: venture to work/work text,web,office365,email,phone calls and apps

530-630: venture to school text,web,office365,email and apps

630-945: school> text , apps (sometimes I hit 5% around 7/8 so that's when. I charge)

945-11/12am> prep for the next day , relax, plug my phone in to complete charging if it didn't die, charge my moto360 and go to bed.

5am repeat

So like I said it last me all day

If you start using the phone at 5:00am and stop using it around 12am. That is 19 hours sir not 12 hours. So which one is it? How much screen on time is it? You can use the phone from 5:00am to 12:00am without needing to charge it? GSAM screen shot please.

Screen time at gym is a minimal, Like I said it lasts "me" a full day on average about 12 hours , so you can nitpick all you want won't change my opinion or what I said. Battery life is great for me

And like I tell everyone don't go by reviews because reviewers don't use the phone the way you do, go try it out and judge for yourself, you get time to return it if you don't like it 😎

You are absolutely correct. That is why I want something more specific from actual users not reviewers. In your case you said 12 hours which I don't consider a full day. My wife's M8 is at 50-70% battery life left at 6pm and that is after 12 hours use. If you are saying it will be at say 10% left at 6pm with the M9. That's not good. However, your next post says 5am to 12am before you need to charge. Now that is a 19 hour full day and if there is 10% left at that point. Then that is good battery life.

That said, thanks for the screenshot but it is better to post usage after the battery has drained at least more than 80%. You only have it at 27% which doesn't give a very complete picture.

How much are you really using your phone during that time though? It looks like you're using a variety of apps, but unless you're using them a lot, I can't see your phone making it to midnight without needing a charge. As neo said, a screenshot after your typical day of full usage would be a better indicator of your battery life.

I shall be back later when I need a charge at 5%

I used to only take pictures off of the Lumia 1520 and in the phone world it is very comparable to a note 4 in terms of performance. What I realized there is no point in waiting for phone tech to try to catch up to better cameras when the they will likely never get to the quality of an aspc compact mirrorless camera. I do believe that a decent camera should be included, with phones speed is important like how apple makes the i6 camera to operate very fast. As for the battery life I accepted reality and got an aukey quick charger 2.0 with a 10,000 mAh battery pack that also supports quick charge 2.0. I recommend more people to do that to relieve strain on the battery. It's a pity battery life went down as the processors are more efficient, as is the ddr4 ram is more power efficient. I think this has to do more with lollipop and 64 bit than the hardware of these phones.

Wow, Lollipop is not doing what I hoped for battery life. Just this morning I was at half charge after 36 hours of use, including web browsing and YouTube. Maybe I'll stick with Kit Kat...

What phone are you using? The M9 ships with Lollipop.

Was your phone in standby for 30 of those 36 hours? That screenshot is pretty useless. On face value 36 hours at 50% is good regardless of use. Not sure what your complaining about.
