Samsung Galaxy S7 Rumors

Re: Samsung's response to the V10 - Galaxy S7 Rumors

I don't think it was a reaction to the V10 at all. It was just an expected thing since there were quite a number of vocal people crying out for the return of expandable storage.

450k is a lot for LG, but pales in comparison to how many phones Samsung sells.

You can't compare the sales figure for the highest priced phone from LG against all the phones Samsung sells. I have a feeling that the Note 5 didn't sell much more that 450K in the first 45 days.

Samsung didn't release any numbers, but online sales can be tracked at about 110,000 in the first 10 days (both Korean and US). And that doesn't take into account any returns, which are probably about 1% the first week, then drop very low right after (based on sales numbers vs. returns that we DO know).

Samsung makes the Note series because they can make a profit with these sorts of numbers — they are really good at making phones, and their brand can demand a premium price. Their bread-and-butter on the high end is always going to be the standard Galaxy S XXX line.

This is not a dig against Samsung, or a rousing fanboy hooray! for LG. Just how it works.

Hmm, I always thought the Note sold more than that. Well, just goes to show assumptions are usually false. I actually meant to compare it with the Note series. Not sure why I didn't mention it. Probably early morning blues.

Just a curious question. How many Galaxy S6 phones did Samsung sell last year? Just curious, that's all.

Deutsche Bank estimated that about 45 million Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge phones would be sold through 2015 back in September. Fewer than the 70 million Samsung predicted, but still close to or exceeding the record of 45 million from the Galaxy S4.

I think 70 million was a huge over-prediction by Samsung given current market conditions, but 45 million is a strong number.

Agreed on both counts. And selling 45 million expensive high-end devices is not bad at all for your bank account. Every time I see someone saying how "bad" Samsung's profits are, I think of how happy I'd be with a free 3 or 4 billion every year. And the kick-åss bass boat I'd buy :P

Re: Samsung's response to the V10 - Galaxy S7 Rumors

personally i dont mind a sealed battery. I had the s3 for 2 years and s5 for a year, not once did i every need to remove the battery.

Yeah, 45 million is still a lot, especially considering the S6 has the typical flagship price tag when it was new, while others are rolling out phones with high-end hardware with a lower price tag, like the Moto X Pure Edition.

Re: Samsung's response to the V10 - Galaxy S7 Rumors

things that keep me with Samsung, are Samsung pay, build, touchwiz.

Though LG would be my second choice, if they ditch the buttons on the back, i would consider it more.

Keep it around 5in and focus on performance, UI, and battery. Also let's not worry too much about getting thinner either. Battery is usually sacrificed for thinness. IPhones had some of the best batteries but now they are cutting back on battery to make the iPhones thinner.

I am in the process of making my Note 4 self aware.

Disagree. The 6/6s and 6plus/6s plus have had the best battery life for me out of all my previous iPhones.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S7 Screen Size - Go Big or Go Home?

Got a buddy I ain't seen in a while.
He repairs cell phones & tablets.
He was stating, you know the worst thing you can do to a cell phobe.
Put it in yer pocket.
You start noticing your cell phone do weird things.
You sit on em & you cracked or break the motherboards.
That is about the most expensive think to repair.
Get a phone case & put it on your side .

Anyone thinking of going to the S7?

Shaping up to be quite some phone.
Dust and water resistant.
Bigger battery.
Less megapixel camera, higher max aperture for better low light sensitivity.
Micro SD slot comes back.
Camera is flush mounted to the body.
Snapdragon 820 chipset.
4 gigs of ram (?)
Some type of force touch implementation.
Iris scanner biometric.
5.5" screen (!!!).

I think I'm sold.

You forgot the beer opener

Re: Anyone thinking of going to the S7?

If it clearly bests my S5, then probably. I can move my SD card over, and live with a non-replaceable battery IF the S7 is just such a win for Samsung that getting one is a no-brainer. If they trim Touchwiz down even more (or hey, bail on it all together), that would also be good. They had just better get it right, or the sales slump they had in 2015 will only worsen.

But really? A 5.5" screen? The damn thing has to fit in my pocket, or I'm out.

Re: Anyone thinking of going to the S7?

I like what I hear so far (particularly about bringing back SD support) but am a bit turned off by the lower megapixel bit. The camera on the S6 is fantastic! I say leave it alone. I like having the pic look great when I cast them to my 48" TV.

Re: Anyone thinking of going to the S7?

The lower megapixel count is to speed up processing and, thus, picture to picture speed and to use an overall smaller assembly allowing the camera to be flush with the body. I think you can safely assume that the camera will be at least as good as the one in the S6 and maybe significantly better.

Re: Anyone thinking of going to the S7?

I don't even have to think about it. I will have it the first day it is available to me.

Re: Anyone thinking of going to the S7?

I believe the screen on the S7 is reported to be 5.2 inches and the edge variant will be 5.5. Just what I read last...... don't know that it's accurate.
