Hey guys!

So last December, I was given this tablet to me as a gift for Christmas, and just recently (tonight), I accidentally dropped it (screen facing up) on my tiled hardwood floor. I turned it on, and the touch screen works fine, but it's cracked (internally- only on the inside)- showing bars/lines/fuzziness.

I was wondering- does someplace like Staples, Walmart, Bestbuy, etc fix it if I request a service, or do I have to go through Samsung to have it done? I'd also like to know a guesstimate on repair price.

If anyone knows anything, I'd greatly appreciate it!!

Like I said- this thing is cracked internally- probably the brain. I didn't even drop it that forcefully or hard for pete's sake!! The touch screen thing makes NO SENSE in the world to me- but hey! I'm not tech savvy when it comes to tablets like my baby. (This thing literally IS my baby- I use it for college)!
Any help is tremendously appreciated!! :-\ :( :-[: '( :)

Sorry, but I think your baby is a lost cause.

Only Samsung can repair it and it'll be expensive, almost to the point of buying a new tablet. It'll definitely be more than half the price of the tablet. That's how most electronics are nowadays. It's also why with any expensive portable electronics, the first thing I do is get a good case.

Also, Samsung can not give you a real estimate until they actually look at it. They might also charge you a fee to run a diagnostic on it(probably $50 or more), plus you'll have to pay to ship it to them. If you do decide to have it repaired, it could be months(I've seen over a year), before they get it back to you, and even then it might not be working properly. I used to work for Best Buy and later Circut City as a tech and installer. I saw this kind of thing on a daily basis.

You've got nothing to lose by calling Samsung, but I'm just letting you know so you don't get shocked later on.

Unfortunately if I were in your shoes I would have to accept that I have lost the tablet. I would probably sell it on Ebay for parts, for which I would get very little money. And if I had enough money, I'd buy another tablet, maybe a cheaper one, or a used or refurbished one(and also a good case). Most retailers also offer warranties on accidental damage, but their really expensive and I wouldn't recommend it unless your accident prone.

Good luck

You COULD sell it on Ebay as suggested above, since oftentimes damaged, but working electronics devices recover a surprisingly high amount of money depending on demand; alternatively, you could also check Ebay for a replacement screen or a nonworking device that has an intact screen and attempt the repair yourself. I fixed my laptop simply by buying replacement parts on Ebay. Plenty of people post videos when they repair their own devices, so consider checking Youtube and seeing if it's something you want to try. Best of luck to you!
