the current 'update' from Samsung is the complete upgrade to version 4.2.2. There is no warning, and according to Samsung, there is no going back either.

Samsung's response is that if you want to downgrade, that your device needs to go in for 'assessment', whatever that is. After dealing with Samsung's organisation, I don't recommend that.

If you're happy with version 4.1.x, I recommend that you don't upgrade.

I'm still trying to find a way to reverse it. I've tried clearing the device cache, and it comes up with an error. Now trying a factory reset. Any advice is welcome. I was very happy using my device until this upgrade stuffed me up.

Welcome to the forums.
To clarify, you cleared the cache in recovery?

I got the choice of upgrading. I don't see what is bad about it. Its not way too much different.

@ robynwebb
You should be saying "Thank you Samsung" instead.

:what: Why complaining when 4.2 is a better firmware ??

You can consider yourself lucky to receive the 4.2 update on a ancient and discontinued Tab2, when people buying the new Tab3 7.0 are stuck on 4.1 with no update available or announced yet...

 Don't want updates ?
;)Turn off the auto updates and problem solved.

:eek:Don't like Samsung?
:cool:Don't buy Samsung!!!

Here we are hoping to get more updates "4.3 or 4.4" and there you are giving ammunition to Samsung to stop the development for older devices.

Smart you Not

I am also hearing a lot about the buginess of the the 4.2.2 update but still i am expecting that they will improve !!! i've been tracking sammy updates for tab2 and found that Switzerland ROM was less buggy than we have !!:D

Hi @kelly Burby,
From my past experience from the Ace2, the S3 and the Tab2,
I learned that the best aproach to optimizing the firmware so to avoid any bugs is to perform a factory reset after the update.
My tab 2 BTU 4.2.2 Is working sweet.

Just "up" graded my Tab 2, now it runs much slower and has lots of childish / pointless functions like spiral.
I was very happy with my Tab 2 until now, I had held back for months on upgrading but in a moment of madness I thought it must be better - it is an up grade after all - how wrong can you be.

I had not realised just how good the old gallery function was,
I WAS able to display approx 30 folders on the screen, now only 8 (and 4 more halfs !)
I WAS able to just flick through my folders, now they only slowly drag across the screen, constantly opening in error ,!
I WAS able to save for off line reading, now the saved pages don't open.

There are many more glitches, and gimmicks that just slow everything down, please I'm not a child, I don't need my photos to wobble when I touch them, or view them in a spiral. I know the youngsters may like this sort of stuff, but I don't, all I'm asking for is an option to remove the upgrade, that way the kids can play and that adults can work again - is that really too much to ask ?
