SAMSUNG GALAXY TAB A - why can i not switch of "Safe Mode"

For no reason my tablet came on with "safe mode" enabled. The notice reads - if you tap this you will disable safe mode then your tablet will restart and you will have all your applications.
However when I tap it, the tablet restarts in safe mode again - over and over again.

Try turning it off, then turning it on. Safe mode is supposed to end when the device starts. (A virus could be causing a constant boot to safe mode. Look for posts on viruses.)
