Samsung Gear S2/S3 messages app

[AC Question]

I think I already know the answer but I want to verify. I have an LG V10 hooked to my new Gear S2 3g, and everything seems to be fine notification-wise, but is there anyway (either through the textra app I currently use) or a different texting app that will allow me to use the Gear S2's messages app to keep sms history with my contacts, or am I forced to work out of notifications and either reply to them on the spot or risk clearing the notification and being forced to use my phone to pick up the conversation again, since the messages app only works for composing without seeing the previously received message? If not, has the Gear S3 done anything to fix this problem? It seems like this issue was discussed around a year ago, has there really been no updates from Samsung or Textra regarding this?
