it's apparently only on new devices coming out that Samsung Messages will not be included. you'll still be able to install it from the Galaxy Store. I prefer Samsung, but have been using Google for the past 10 months, or so. it's not much of an adjustment. as to changing the icon, couldn't hazard a guess.

Yes. As far as I know, Samsung is deprecating its Messages app. It came pre-installed on my S24 Ultra, but I disabled it since I've been using Google Messages for the past five or six years.

My Fold 6 only has Google messages this was already written on the wall when Google/Samsung messages app was collaborated along side Samsung messages, US carrier's mentioned they are going with Google's RCS not sure if international version will follow.

Just so your aware if your device doesn't come with Samsung message just go to the Galaxy store and type in the search bar Samsung message and you can download it .

Everyone is assuming that because current devices can side load or use the Galaxy Store to get apps (like Messages) that future devices won't be locked out via build.prop checks or other means. Same way you can't just side load GoodLock or GoodGuadians on any phone.

I love Samsung Messages (aside from no spam filter) but the app is on life support. There haven't and won't be any updates, at least meaningful if there are any. It's a shame because it is in my experience vastly superior to Google Messages.

Google app doesn't allow the user to delete individual lines in a conversation chain like the Samsung app as Google requires the entire chain be deleted. Samsung app for me hands down.

Not sure if this works on RCS messages but if you have a second messenger installed, you can use it to delete individual messages and then switch back to G-Messages and it should be gone there too.

Why in the world would I want to use two messaging apps???

What version of Google Messages are you on? I'm a Google Messages beta user and I can delete individual texts from a thread. I'm not sure Google has rolled that out universally yet. Or if it has rolled it out, it isn't available everywhere.

It's not the beta version you speak of as I'm using the Samsung Messaging app for the reasons stated in my previous post

Ok. Google Messages does support deleting specific texts (or lines) out of a text thread. As far as how long Samsung will support its messaging app. That I don't know.

It still isn't as customizable as Samsung Messages, for things like colors and such; and the icon can be changed, but you would need to download an icon pack. It does have a spam blocker and the GUI is clean and simple.

I don't run the beta and I can delete individual lines from a conversation.
Just checked the app and you can delete one exchange at a time but that's all. If for sake of discussion you have a text chain with 25 exchanges and want to delete 10 of said exchanges you must delete the 10 one at a time instead of selecting the 10 individual exchanges and doing a mass delete.

The Google app is still not my app of choice for that reason

Agree. That is annoying. Why not a multi select or select all feature 🙄
