Samsung messages or Verizon messages?

I know there 1001 choices for sms. I like the aforementioned apps because they can do split screen and pop out. Anyone use either of these and if so which?

Ive been using VZ Messages for a couple months now. It works fine. Opens pretty fast and some options in there. I haven't used the default app though so I can't give you any feedback.

I use Verizon Messages. It seems to have most of the features than the big names have, and I can keep up with SMS on my PC with Verizon's Message+ desktop app.

Have you guys been able to get the message to preview in the people tab. Like when some from my people tab texts me I get a little colored tab that I can pull out to read the text (when using the stock app) and call message or email. With vz messages I don't see the preview.

I don't see the preview if your talking about pulling the tabs out -- but if i pull it out it loads to VZ Messages

I like both for different reasons. I like the Verizon messages because I can send Gifs easily. With the stock app I cannot because of the text size limits.

I think message+ is superior to the stock app, but it isn't 100% compatible across the board. For instance, I can't use it with my gear plus neo... And reading texts without pulling out my phone is basically the only reason to have a smart watch.

I use Verizon Message+ as the default SMS client, but have selected the Samsung messaging app as the one for notifications on my Gear S2 (Bluetooth). Not sure why it works, but this allows me to read my incoming messages on the watch and respond to them as well without touching my phone. The messages continue to synchronize with the Verizon app, and there is no issue that I've discovered so far.

This is reproducible, as my wife's works the same way. I know it isn't the same watch as you specified, but it may help others in a similar situation.
