Samsung Messages RCS

Well I have Wifi calling now on my unlocked and use it at home but I have ****ty signal sometimes and it's not a Verizon thing it's my phone. Not sure if you remember when the S10's came out and all the signal problems people had. Husband had to get a new motherboard brand new phone they wouldn't send us new ones and mine wasn't as bad as his so I never turned it in. Can't wait to get the S21. But yeah I was using Google Messages but no one I knew had it then all of a sudden my friend with t-mobile messaged me and I saw it was working she was the only one. I thought someone said it worked with Verizon messaging app. I liked Google Messages ok mainly cause of my Chromebook and being able to see my text and text back but I like Samsung cause it matches my theme.
Hi Rose ,
Yeah I remember your situation you had , Google message app might work with Tmobile rcs . I've tested Tmobile rcs in stock message app with Someone using Verizon and didn't work both phones unlocked using this method.

Well I just can't wait for the S21 I was googling it last night and saw so many different colors and specs prices I don't know what to believe. One listed the ultra as only 100 more which I doubt. But the S21 plus only coming in black and silver and the Ultra had a violet which I love kind of like my S9 Plus. I hope they have good trade in deals cause I am sure they won't give what they were giving last year for the 10 plus when the 20's came out. And I want to go see and hold the Ultra in person before I pre-order so I hope Best Buy or Verizon has them on display. How does it work with Verizon lets say the phone is 1200 and I have like can I pay 8 and split the 400 up monthly on my bill if I don't have the full amount. I want to buy the whole thing outright if I can though. And is it better to get from Verizon if I am getting a Verizon one are they quicker and do they have the same trade in value and free accessories as Samsung offers or Best Buy? With Sprint I started doing unlocked and Samsung or Best Buy. I am sorry this is about RCS can't wait for an S21 thread. Sorry :-)

I'm glad to see your excited for upcoming s21, probably be around February. 800.00 down is enough to get any phone regardless unlocked or carrier and rest will be small monthly payments. That's through carrier or best buy , if you buy unlocked through Samsung website you can use there financing payments.

Thanks! I haven't financed a phone ever. The S7 Edge was a $300 trade in which is what I paid for it through Sprint back when their was 199 to upgrade for another 2 years and the Edge was 299 and I got a Note 8 and bought it out right got $400 for it bought the 9 plus out right and kept doing that. I hope to save up enough money by then to have it all and with holiday money I get will see. They say the 21 is coming out 6 weeks early will see. usually it's around March or April cause I always use April as an excuse it's my birthday. LOL! But anyway Thanks!

I didn't clear the data (would that get rid of all my messages?), but I did clear the cache, and reset network settings, and it seems to be working fine now.

Clear Data would just relopulate the messages again. But if its working then don't have to.

Oh so Verizon messages is only for other's using the same app? Cause I asked that question on my other post. Thanks!

Yes, it has basically worked just like RCS for years, but this is only when both participants are using this app. As far as I know, the app will maintain the RCS features for those using it and on a different network than Verizon, but I can't find confirmation of this in the Q&A section on their website.

Not sure if this will work, but found it on a different site.

My wife's Note 20 Ultra is on T-Mobile.
I tried this and it did not work because all the RCS settings were turned on already.

I am wondering if it (Google chat) is already "built in" the Samsung Messages app and maybe there is no need to turn on the chat features. The google popup hasn't appeared on her phone.

She has the chat features (Read receipts, delivery receipts, typing status showing, large file xfer). I just don't know if that is the old samsung rcs or google rcs.

so RCS is carrier based and not Phone based??? if that is the case i may never get it down in the Caribbean. i dont have an S20, i have A71 but i have been curious about RCS, does Google messages have it across the board or is it dependent on carrier as well?? i am currently using the Samsung messages app.

so if after i install the google phone app and do the scan and dont see my carier, i can just remove it and go back to stock samsung phone app.

and it wont mess with my phone.

i just highly doubt we have RCS in the Caribbean yet
I have ditched the Samsung Messages in favour of the globally rolled out stock Google Messages which is working brilliantly across the world on all qualifying manufacturers handsets, (Android 5.0+), and in all countries and on all carriers with the U.S.A. being the only notable exception it would seem.

Great to use on New Year's Eve to my friends in other countries for pictures, videos and sound bites and completely free on Wi-Fi.

i do have the Google Messages app, but its not set to default. for me i just like using things which the phone manufacturer s provided, that way when i have to troubleshoot its easier bcuz i am not running 3rd party apps. but if Google Message supports it i might just have to use it and see.
thanks for that info

I believe a little of both. I think some of the (US) carriers first had carrier-dependent setups for a while and may still be in place. But lately, google has rolled out RCS support in google messages - I've been reading announcements of it being available in different countries over the past several months.

This thread is about Samsung Messages supporting google RCS instead of whatever it previously supported, which should provide interoperability once google's RCS is available in your country. When I first got my S20FE I turned on "advanced messaging" but I could never confirm it worked with anyone - it certainly didn't use RCS with my son's unlocked FE with Google Messages. (now, I've been able to turn on chat services in google messages and it works well between carriers).

My suggestion to get an answer to your question is to try turning on chat features in google messages (you might need to install/update carrier services). If you can enable it in google messages, you might eventually be able to enable it in samsung messages as well. But I've decided I am ok with keeping google messages.

One thing I don't get. With samsung and Google messaging, I can't receive attachments when on wif., It gets stuck on downloading. I switch wifi off, and the attachment shows up. Am I missing a setting?

Are you using any kind of ad blocking on your wifi network?

I got a new wifi system with ad blocking/threat protection and I found that I had to turn those off. Somehow the wifi system thought the address where the MMS data had to be downloaded from was some kind of threat or ad (it's a closed system so I have no idea specifically what it was blocking).

Adding to the confusion is the default randomized mac setting on the S20. This was completely screwing up the ad blocking settings, so even if I turned ad blocking off, it would turn itself back on, until I turned off randomized macs.

Another thing verizon messed up on samsung phones ...smh

So I'll never have RCS with Samsung messages and Verizon? I read they were slowly rolling out to Samsung messages but I didn't know Verizon did not support it. Our phones are unlocked but we're getting Verizon branded S21s soon. Maybe I'll go back to Google messages.

Yeah soon samsung message app will support google RCS , not sure if it be unlocked models also, but I switch between google and samsung, I can flash the carrier version to get RCS but rather have the unlock version and google messages.

jus tried google messages it says chat features unavailable for this device. your device does not currently support this feature .

so why does my A71 not support it. jus sad news

this part "randomized macs" is very important for people who may be using mac filtering. bcuz this spoofs your mac address o sometimes you wont get connected. i had the same issue.

Do you have the global model or a U.S.A. carrier locked phone?

When I first got my FE I had the same thing. This is why I mentioned carrier services. Installing that didn't help initially... but after an update in late November or early December, suddenly I had chat features.

Now, the version of carrier services I have (50) caused problems with regular SMS for a lot of people so Google quickly rolled it back to 48 in a subsequent update which I have not installed because fortunately everything works fine in 50 for me. It is possible that 48 does not allow chat services. But if you don't have carrier services installed, it's worth a try.

Also, I am using the beta of google messages. Not sure if that made any difference.
