Samsung Messages RCS

this part "randomized macs" is very important for people who may be using mac filtering. bcuz this spoofs your mac address o sometimes you wont get connected. i had the same issue.

Yeah, I wish that Samsung had made some sort of effort to suggest turning it off for your "home" SSID, where it arguably has no positive value.

When I first got my FE I had the same thing. This is why I mentioned carrier services. Installing that didn't help initially... but after an update in late November or early December, suddenly I had chat features.

Now, the version of carrier services I have (50) caused problems with regular SMS for a lot of people so Google quickly rolled it back to 48 in a subsequent update which I have not installed because fortunately everything works fine in 50 for me. It is possible that 48 does not allow chat services. But if you don't have carrier services installed, it's worth a try.

Also, I am using the beta of google messages. Not sure if that made any difference.

how or where do i get "carrier services" and is that specific to my provider??

my carrier services app is version 48... and doesnt tell me it needs any update. last update Dec 9th

Yeah soon samsung message app will support google RCS , not sure if it be unlocked models also, but I switch between google and samsung, I can flash the carrier version to get RCS but rather have the unlock version and google messages.

Oh Ok we have unlocked now but are getting Verizon S21's cause I am not leaving them like I knew I was eventually leaving Sprint. I have Google Messages too and it only worked with one friend of mine on T-Mobile she has an S20 now. I just saw where under chat features mine said verify number for chat features to work cause at 1st it wasn't working for her she used to have an S10 Plus. Now for her I see chat message instead of text so it's working with Google. But she's the only one it works with. But I want to try a Verizon phone this time and not unlocked like we've had in the past couple phones.

Yeah that was the update to roll back to version 48, that I haven't installed. With any luck, your phone is in the same boat as the FE and a new release > 50 will work for all of us.

so if after i install the google phone app and do the scan and dont see my carier, i can just remove it and go back to stock samsung phone app.

and it wont mess with my phone.

i just highly doubt we have RCS in the Caribbean yet

If you and the recipient are both using Google Messages AND have chat services connected, you both should be able to enjoy RCS services. Google finally said to hell with the carriers and created a way to bypass them through their Messages app.

Oh I wrote my friend used to have an S20 plus but I meant S10 plus and now she has a regular 20. But I don't really like Google messages I went back to the Samsung one plus it matches my theme. But yes I hope going from unlocked to Verizon model is good. I used to always do the Sprint model until I read about unlocked and knew we were eventually leaving Sprint which I'm glad we did. Will we need new sim cars in our S21's cause they are 5G. I think I want one regardless cause of my signal problems. Are supposed to take out the sims when trading back in to Samsung? With Sprint back in the day we never had sim cards to put in or take out.

I always kept my old sim cards but once you activate the new ones the old ones are no longer good.

I read an article tonight that Verizon is slowly putting out RCS to Samsung phones with 3.0. So maybe I will have it when I get my new phone. Cuz I don't have the update yet on my S10 Plus.

The problem is, there's no uniform RCS code, so this may end up being RCS between specific samsung phones AND all on Verizon network only. Verizon did this awhile back with the Galaxy S9 series. I would have needed to be texting someone on Verizon who also had a Galaxy S9 for RCS to work.

I think the news here is that Samsung is turning on Google RCS support to its own app. The reference here may be that Verizon is rolling that out, not their own.

Right now, I get RCS between myself on AT&T and someone on Verizon, both of us with carrier-branded S20FE's using Google Messages. The advantage of Samsung Messages support would just be support for those people who just use the default messaging app.

I have had RCS support for the last year in Samsung Messages on my S10+ . I moved from a pixel 4xl and had no issues conversing with friends running Google messages on any mobile phone carrier in the UK.

That is because you are not in the U.S.A.

Never had a problem with Google Message RCS since roll-out in June 2019 in the U.K. and the same for the Samsung Message app based on it.

Google got fed up with U.S. carriers stalling and blocking the roll-out of free RCS and by-passed them... so it comes as no surprise that after a global roll-out by Google Message RCS, that the U.S.A. is experiencing continued issues 14 months after launch in the U.S.

One possible explanation is that U.S. carriers see RCS as a cash cow and want to control it to enable them to monetize it and generate more revenue... perhaps from advertising or from big businesses who wish to promote themselves and their products using RCS.

Whichever way you look at it... it does seem strange that Google Message RCS and Samsung RCS that it is based on, works worldwide but not in the the home of Android and Google.
