I got my gear s3 frontier from best buy in Canada but so far I cannot see the samsung pay option in the gear app (settings tab) on my phone. I am using a galaxy note 4 which is not compatiable with the Samsung Pay that was released for the phone earlier but I guess the gear app should still have an option for samsung pay. Both my firmware in gear and phone and the gear app are all up to date. Has anybody had any success in using samsung pay on gear s3 in canada?

Thanks

I tweeted Samsung Pay and was told that Samsung Pay is not officially available in Canada. (Even though I have it on my phone). According to them, we are only testing Samsung Pay in Canada and when the trial is over, they will allow us to install the app on our watch. Until then, we have to use our phones.

I got an email from Samsung this morning that said they released a new version of Gear Manager and this will allow us to get Samsung Pay on our watches. I haven't got it yet but hopefully sometime today it will show up.

Ok let me know if you manage to get the Samsung Pay running. I haven't received any update yet and it's a bit frustrating that one of their key feature is taking so long to get fixed.

Too bad, the watch is looking more attractive with the current $70 off sale. I just did a chat with Samsung and the agent wasn't even sure it would work when Samsung Pay is in general release. It would be a great selling point though since there are not very many mainstream apps for Tizen.

I have been reading that the gear s3 sold in Canada is not NFC enabled. Does this mean it does not have NFC capability or it has not been activated yet through the software? If it is not NFC capable then Samsung Pay will not work.

Let's not roll backwards here with info. The watch has NFC and MST, the Gear app doesn't have the Pay plugin because Pay is in limited release in Canada at this time.

That is why I asked the question because the Bestbuy website has NFC listed as no which is confusing. I am hoping as well that when Samsung Pay is fully released in Canada it is enabled on the watch.

Haha, Best Buy just cut and paste smartwatch listings. I've heard that you may have to turn on NFC in settings. Remember Canada is a small market so Samsung isn't going to make a different watch from the US for us.

I had the same concern.
I've talked to Samsung Canada support team just a minute ago and was told that the Gear S3 Canada has NFC and MST, it's just that as of now Samsung pay is not available for Gear S3 in Canada. :)

I too noticed the best buy website listed the gear s3 as not having NFC in Canada do I reached out to Samsung Canada.. After much debate the rep confirmed that the Canadian version does have NFC but according to her it does not have MST.. (I think she's wrong and I'm pretty sure it does have it but that's samsung Canada's official position apparently)

That said after finding out that the Canadian version did not have samsung pay software I ordered my watch from b&hphoto in New York (free shipping to Canada and stellar customer service!) So it came with samsung pay and works perfectly even paired to my non samsung phone!

I'm now one of only two people that I'm aware of who is samsung paying it up all over Canada with my gear s3, and I get a ton of comments and looks about it lol it's the absolute best when you come up to a reader that doesn't have NFC and go to pay with the watch.. "Oh that won't work" oh yes it will haha

Wait! Your US-purchased Gear S3 can use Samsung Pay in Canada? Where did you get your Samsung Pay app? What bank or credit card provider are you currently using? As far as I'm aware, only select CIBC credit cards work only on the phone NOT the watch. Also, in order to get this working you need to pre-register on Samsung CA website which gives you a secret link to download a CIBC-specific app only for your phone.

Please do elaborate!

Lol I'll try to answer these questions in the order that you asked them.

1) the US version of the watch is preinstalled with the Samsung pay app.

2) I am with CIBC

3) it is only CIBC for now, but select cards is a bit inaccurate. It's all CIBC visa cards. They say select because CIBC also has 2 Mastercards, they do not work yet

4) once your scan your card using the Samsung pay app you automatically get a welcome email from CIBC and you're done.

You do have to enter a zip code. I used the 3 numbers from my postal code followed by 00. For example your postal code is L9M 3C4 use 93400 as a zip code.

I've only been to once place it hasn't worked so far, and even then I'm not sure if it really wouldn't have worked or perhaps it's just limited to dollar value. NFC payments are generally limited to $100. Samsung claims MST payments do not have a dollar limit, but today I tried to make a payment for $113 and it failed. All other payments I've made were under $100 and have been successful. Perhaps CIBC has added their own value limit.

I didn't have to call, I verified by text message. But why not just tell the lady at the bank you have an s6 or something? It shouldn't matter. You just need it activated.

Short of that make sure your cell number is on your card profile and then start again. It should give you the verify by sms option. That worked for me.

Thanks for all the info! Btw, CIBC seems to be moving away from MasterCard. My question for you is does your watch have the Uber app?

CIBC was all visa forever. They only brought on the two Mastercards a few years ago and they never really got much traction.. I don't know if they're going away but they're certainly the orphaned child of their credit card portfolio.

No, the Uber app isn't pre-loaded and it's nothing available on the Galaxy store presumably because I'm in Canada.. I've read there's a way to sideload apps to the watch but I haven't looked into that yet.

Did you manage to get your card authenticated?
