Samsung S4 Firmware Upgrade Encountered when upating

Hi all,

I can see this question has been asked a number of times and I have tried so many different ways to "fix" but so far have been unsuccessful and looking for some help.

I really am a tech novis so will need it in almost child friendly manor! Ha

I was running a firmware update through Kies when it encountered an error. I then followed to instructions for recovery and then that crashed and since then my phone doesn't switch on and says: Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again. The problem I have is that Kies does not even detect the phone. I have tried Odin 3.07 and 3.09 but again, they do not detect the phone. I can put it in download mode by pressing Home, Power and Volume down but that's it.

Took it to a Samsung Shop and they reset it for me at a cost of £25!
