Samsung S7 - access with broken screen

My Samsung S7 screen has completely stopped working for some reason. The screen started off with purple dots on it and now over the past week has gone completely black. The phone is still responsive as I was accessing it and making it ring etc. through the findmymobile feature on the samsung website.

Unfortunately, somehow I'm guessing I accidently formatted the phone from the website and now my guess is it is sitting on the welcome/intro page (the one you get when you first turn on the phone from the shop).

I need to ensure I have correctly formatted the phone to erase all data on it as I want to sell it for parts (someone else can replace the screen and have a great phone).

How can I be sure the files are gone? Is there a way to mirror the phone to my PC screen (keep in mind it probably has default settings now)?

Welcome to Android Central! Unfortunately, there's no way to mirror the screen in this situation, since that would require you to access a system menu (and the phone doesn't support wired mirroring using something like an MHL cable). Your only option is to get the screen replaced if you want to see what's going on.
