AC Question

My notification bar is always dropping down (sometimes intermittently) when I am using the Samsung S8 without me having to pull it down or receiving notifications. It is becoming quite annoying because every few seconds I have to drag it back up so that I am able to use the phone. Has someone else encountered the same issue?

Regards,

Welcome to Android Central! Do you have a screen protector on, or a case that doesn't fit that well?

I have a screen protector on, but the problem started before adding the screen protector. I rebooted the phone to factory settings, worked well for 2 days it just doing that immediatly after I installed a game app. I uninstalled all the apps that I tought provoked that but without any succes. Also every now and then the apps edge blinks intermitently and it coincides with the notification bar drop.

could be the case. or maybe the phones chassis has warped and it is putting pressure on the screen causing fake touches.
do this.
enable developer options and in there enable show taps and pointer location
this way you can see if there are ghost touches or if it's a software issue

this is what i see after actvating taps and pointer location

The wierd thing is that since I enabled developer options, taps and location only once i encountered the issue with the notification bar drop down

But how can I see in Safe Mode if the problem is caused by any app?

If you boot up in Safe Mode and the issue still occurs, then you know that it is an issue with the Phone, the OS or a core app.

If it doesn't occur when in Safe Mode, you know some app you installed since you got the phone is causing the issue. Then you need to start uninstalling apps one by one to determine which is the culprit.

Last gasp scenario is to wipe/reset your phone.

So my option in this case would be to reset the phone to factory settings :(. The problem with this is that I already did this once before and encountered a similar issue. The notification bar was dropping down and in the same time it was freezing my phone. I think I should install the apps one at the time and see if it is one of them that is causing this because until now I was installing several in the same time.

Because no third party apps will run in safe mode. Just the apps that are part of the stock installation.

Auch! so in this case it's not because of third party apps, but maybe it's the phone itself or stock apps. :(

If you still have the issue while in safe mode it is likely a problem with the phone or the OS installation. You can try wiping the cache partition before you reset just in case that helps. If a reset doesn't fix it then it may be a hardware problem.

I wiped everything with a factory reset and it does the same thing, so I think you are definetly right and it is a hardware problem :(

The problem was solved. If you ask me what caused the issue I have no ideea. All I can do is describe the exact steps I took.
1. I took of the screen protector just in case it was causing the issue
2. I restored the phone to factory settings
3. After that I didn't install any apps and didn't intstall any backups, no passwords, no face recognition, no pin, I omited all of the steps.
It seemed to have worked flawlessly :) I have no idea why and what was actually casing the issue with the notification bar. One day has passed so far and no notification bar issue so far.
I hope it's gonna stay this way :)

My guess is that the screen protector was the culprit. Thanks for reporting back with the additional information. It might help someone else that is experienceing the same issue and I'm glad you got it fixed.

So the hole day I had no issues until 9-10 pm when it started doing it again. Around 4-5am was still doing it. Now it's 8 am and it stopped again. It is so weird. I really have no idea what's going on
