There is a vibration notification on my samsung s9 that appeared all of a sudden. I have turned off the smart lock and all the notifications vibration options.
The only things that stops it is turning the vibration intensity off on notifications but that also turns it off for all other notifications..
It's really annoying!!

Sounds like your Smart Alert is active (this causes the phone to vibrate when you pick it up to remind you that you have unread notifications).

Do you have any BT devices trying to connect, maybe? Or hitting a navigation button while unlocking? I assume no, but do you see any notification or pop up when the vibration comes? What if your phone has notification sounds on, does it make a sound or still just vibration?

thanks so much for all the suggestions. I tried turning bluetooth off and it still does the vibration and it happens whichever way I unlock it (face recognition, fingerprint or code). Nothing else comes up and it's only a vibration, no sound.
Do you think it would go away if I do a factory reset? Or disable some system notification?

When does it do it? While you are actively browsing or using an app? Or only when you pick it up?

Is your advanced features on with smart alert?
I know you said you looked, but you are describing exactly what it does.

Well, that's a start! If it doesn't do it in Safe Mode, it's pretty much certain that it's a 3rd party app. Have you installed anything lately? Or any apps that have updated since you started seeing that behavior? I'd start with anything that manages either lockscreen (or apps that tend to 'hijack' lockscreens with ads, like File Managers and Battery Savers/Memory Optimizers) or notifications (like LightFlow) as any of those could be derping out. Check if any specific apps have any notifications every time you unlock, maybe that could be it (messaging if you're using a 3rd party app?).

I too have all vibration off, but when I 'wake' the phone, I get a short vibration. No other times.

I have Note 9 with Android 8.1 and was able to reduce intensity of the vibrate when hard pressing home on the navigation bar under settings, sounds and vibration, vibrate intensity. Could not disable completely.
