Samsung Universe, How in are you?

New Note 9 user here.....
This question provoked me to play with these Samsung apps, and I actually quite like them.

So I've set myself up to go all Samsung (using OneNote for notes). I think it is going to work nicely!

I use

Samsung pay
Samsung Calculator
Samsung Calendar
Samsung internet
Samsung messages
Gmail
Outlook email
Google photos
Onenote
Onedrive and gdrive
Samsung find my device and Norton

I love Samsung pay. It's nice because sometime I forget my wallet. I love being able to get a free fast wireless Samsung charger using my points as well.

What keeps me on Samsung phones is that I actually prefer Samsung apps over Google apps. Almost all of them in fact. I won't go into all the details since I don't want to derail this thread with a war. It's all personal preference. And yes, Google+ is dead.

Agreed. I prefer Samsung apps as well. The exception being I do use Chrome.

Personally I used both Google Chrome and the Samsung Browser

I used Gmail for my personal email and Samsung Email app for my work account email

I use

As for Samsung Pay and Google Pay... I don't use either! Personally I don't trust either. And before any yells at me...it isn't Samsung or Google that I don't trust...I just don't like the idea of Paying With My Smartphone

Samsung's Internet browser is miles beyond Chrome. It's a real shame so many Samsung users never even try it because they're told by people that have never used it that it 'sucks'.

* It's way faster than Chrome
* Way smoother than Chrome (Chrome has a tendency to sometimes stutter wildly even on the latest flagship devices)
* Has a built-in dark mode that actually recolors web pages! (And it's an intelligent recoloring that ensures dark text is laid over dark backgrounds)
* Amazing ad blocker support
* Best Private Mode (Incognito Mode) system of any browser.
* Reader mode
* The most used/common options are accessible from the bottom of the screen where you can actually reach them
* Has a setting that enables pinch to zoom in any web page (even if the webpage is set to disable zoom). This is enormously useful.
* Allows you to bookmark a page with one touch without needing to go into any menus

And that's not even the whole list.

The only legitimate reasons I've heard to use Chrome is that many people use Chrome cross-platform and want to keep their bookmarks synched. The other is the built-in Chromecasting (which you need a 3rd party app like AllCast to do in the Samsung browser).

But other than that, Samsung Internet is better than Chrome in every measurable way.

I removed all of Samsung apps that I can remove. I prefer Google apps. I do use the Samsung Themes.

I have zero interest to use Samsung services which work mostly with Samsung devices. I use the better Google services which are mostly cross platform, and I trust my personal stuff with Google than Samsung.

A little off topic but .. Is there a way to transfer your music from GPM to Samsung Music. I'm a little worried about the rumored demise of GMP. I do have my music backed up on a PC and a USB drive.

I would probably say both sides with a bit of a Google lean. I have found that Bixby works best with Google Assistant. I use Galaxy Apps for the apps that have to be updated through it. I upgraded my Gear S3 Frontier for a Ticwatch Pro, so I use Google Fit a little bit. Samsung Health is the better fit app imo.

Mail, messages, pay, and calendar are the only apps that I am exclusively Samsung on. I like themes, so those apps work great for my basic needs. Kroger doesn't support Google/Apple Pay yet, so I am reliant on Samsung Pay.

I'll add from my post something else that could be either, or something else...

Launcher: neither. Running Nova Launcher. Especially once I found the setting that got ride of those horrid frames that Samsung was forcing on some of the non-stock app icons.

I heard today that Google is letting users put a life span on collected data. I know you can opt out of some stuff with Google, but they first hold a gun to your head and tell you they cut off your leg if you say no. I can't remember the feature right off but there was something I wanted to opt out of and I got this warning that if I disabled this feature something else that I kinda used wouldn't work anymore. I'm assuming this will be the same. You can opt to have your data removed after so many days but if you do you're phone will stop ringing. LOL. But seriously is anyone really concerned about their information for either buy-in? Granted my phone goes everywhere I go but do I really care if they know what I'm buying my kids for Christmas or that I have 6 games on my phone? I do have to find a way to disable Google assistant from sending me reminders on bills that show up in my mailbox. That gets kind of annoying. What's Samsung going to do, tell people I have 49 apps on my phone and use the information to make me a better phone next year? I think as long as they aren't watching and listening to me it's kind of a wash.

I would love to know where they said this. I have never encountered this -- ever. Google or anywhere.

Varies from company to company for me.

Read a tad more into the terms. It definitely isn't just about what apps you have installed -- it is the latter of what you said lol.

I use
Samsung pay :- that's the best option out there. Nothing competes to it.
Samsung messages couldn't care less about messages and its default so I am good.
Samsung pass I use.
Rest I use Google apps

Hahaha, I'm very sure. I just watched a whole thing, kinda conspiracy-ish, on Alexa and Google Assistant saying there are a lot of reports of them turning on by themselves, making odd sometimes threatening statements and being elusive about it's connection to the FBI and NSA. Your statement got me thinking about what I wanted to turn off and didn't because it was connected to something I use so I went to my security settings looking for it but couldn't figure out what it had been. I did stumble onto the thing I mentioned about "auto deleting" your data based on a time you set. The options are; manually, 3 months, 6 months and 18 months. So yeah not a lot of choices there. I also went thru some things and found that I'm logged in in Denver Co. I live in Ohio... Isn't that where the big FBI office is, or is it just a listening post? Won't let me log out of that location either.Screenshot_20190524-052827_Chrome.jpeg

I use anything that gives me the flexibility to do whatever I want with whichever device I have. I don't like being tied down to anything.

Yep that is a good thing to turn on. I turned my auto delete on as well.
