Screen constantly going black

Whenever I am using my phone whether I'm playing a game or watching a YouTube video or typing like I am right now during while whatever I'm doing every 15 seconds or so the screen just goes black like it's timeing out, actually it flickers a little first usually. Then I have to hit the side button twice and then unlock the screen and start again. And the computer part of the phone does not know that the screen is going black, what I mean is, like if I am typing like I am right now when the screen goes black, if I keep typing after the screen is black and then I turn the screen back on, whatever I have typed after it went black still appears so the phone thinks the screen is still on. So when it goes black I have to push the button on the side once , as if I was turning the screen to black from normal as if the screen was still on, and then another time to turn the screen back on and then unlock the screen by swiping as normal. This is really annoying, and has been happening since the day I got it out of the box. This is a Samsung Galaxy S III SCH-S968C, bought at Walmart for Straight Talk. Hope someone knows an easy fix for this...it really sucks

Welcome to Android Central! It sounds like a faulty screen. You actually got it brand new at Walmart, and it's been doing this ever since you got it? How old is it? It would surprise me that anyone was still selling S3's brand new.

If the phone is still pretty new, bring it back to Walmart and ask for an exchange. Otherwise, if the phone is still under warranty, contact Samsung for service.

This was like 4 months ago, and yes straight talk still was, in fact it was the best and newest they had... But anyway its old enough thay Walmart won't do it, and justa couple weeks ago I got a small crack on the bottom corner of the screen, and I'd assume that would b grounds to cancel the warranty. 😥

Yeah, that's a problem. You could bring it to an independent repair shop and get an estimate for how much it would cost to replace the screen.
