Screen cracked after one week!!!

Your kidding right? You dropped the phone but it's verizon's fault it cracked? It's every bit your fault. You should have gotten insurance.

Would you blame a car company if your car dented if you ran into pole? If you don't have insurance guess what. You have to pay out of your own pocket to get it fixed

I always thought that the curved glass would be easier to break but i thought it wouldn't happen because i haven't seen any issues with the Nexus S. Well i just added the insurance to my line.

Gorilla glass is all marketing; you can do the same scratch tests on any current glass touchscreen and get the same results anymore.

I beg to differ. I dropped my Evo 3D in no case from about 5-6 feet on cement and it landed on the corner and no damage to the glass. Hit so hard it knocked the antenna off on the inside. Also dropped my Razr getting out of the car and it to landed on the corner "in a soft case" no damage. I don't know what band of fortified glass Samsung went with but its not even close to the quality of Gorilla glass. Maybe you just got some lemon glass perhaps their QC is not as good as Corning.

If you paid full retail, I could sort of see the appeal but otherwise self-insuring is equally if not more prudent. $6 a month plus $90 deductible isn't much of a deal. Better to buy an OG Droid off eBay and muddle through till you can upgrade again. This way you save $120 over the 20 months between upgrades.

To the OP, if you paid by credit card, your purchase may be covered against damage. Outside chance but worth a look.

So then you would complain about the iphone being made with a glass front and back? Google didn't make the phone, verizon is not going to do anything for it you dropped the phone. Not to mention there is some variance among screens and what they can take. Yours may break when someone else's did not.

You seem to drop things alot so I would say invest in insurance or a case....

I sympathize w/the OP. If a product is meant to be used in a manner in which it will be dropped, it should be resistant to breakage. Really, I dropped by BB Curve about 100 times or more, it scratched and nicked never broke. dropping a cell phone..duh..that's "normal usage"..it's not like dropping your plasma TV. I'm surprised someone doesnt market a rubberized phone so you don't have to spend more time looking for a case(see all the posts here) than you do selecting the phone.

That being said, yes, get the *insurance*... This is one type of insurance that you're likely to use.

Just because you got lucky twice doesn't mean that Samsung made a defective phone. Dropping a phone on its corner is certainly going to affect the probability of the screen cracking, but that doesn't mean it will happen every time, and it doesn't mean it won't happen every time, either.

Every phone i have with Gorilla glass i have beaten up and dropped pretty hard and never cracked the glass. Samsung said they went with a diff. company who they have not named as the supplier for the fortified glass. They stopped on the Nexus S. I know Corning will have a better CQ than the company they went with for the glass.

Was something changed and now the bonding agent is effecting the glass making it weaker? Like i said i have yet to crack a screen on a phone with Gorilla glass and a few times i tried to break the glass. Well one night i got mad put my Evo 3D through my wall. Corning stands behind their glass. You can go on their site and see what devices are using it. Why hasten this suppler has kept a low profile. I can say for a fact Gorilla glass is stronger and higher quality.

Bottom line. This phone was drop tested as part of its testing. If the glass did not break then and if it breaks from a small 3 foot drop this leads me to beleave the QC on the glass sucks.

A lot goes into whether the phone breaks or not. Just because one phone did not break because it hit a different spot means nothing. This is normal for any product, there is always a variance. I still do not understand why you are ing though? I mean this was known it was not gorilla glass and with the rate you seem to drop things I do not understand why you would not have at the minimum bought a case.

I don't follow your logic. Because in your situation, where you dropped several phones, with this phone breaking, that makes you conclude that this must be the worst off, regardless of any variable such as surface pressure points, etc.?

I sympathize with you, but you shouldn't use such highly subjective experiences to make a general/broad statement when there's proof (on YouTube and other posts, no less) that go to the exact opposite of the conclusion and truth you posit.

And quite frankly, if you do a lot of googling regarding the fortified glass, many people speculate that Corning is the manufacturer, but because there are no trademarks regarding the glass, it's unnamed. Honestly, we don't know. Samsung "warrants" it as fortified, and there's no reason to believe that it's not. What that means we can't honestly know, but making generalized claims based upon a singular personal experience is fascinating but ultimately somewhat empty.

Pyrex breaks under impact with some non-zero probability; just as breaking a Pyrex cup is not proof of, or even suggestive of, an overall quality problem, neither is one user breaking one Galaxy Nexus screen proof of an overall quality problem.

I'd say that since the number one issue with the iPhone 4/4S hardware (a phone produced by a manufacturer who is known for quality and control) is screen/back cracking (yes, the iPhone does use Gorilla Glass), there is at least some marketing mumbo-jumbo going on.

The iPhones are either using Gorilla Glass (it's oddly never been confirmed, though Apple is known for secrecy and may have told Corning to keep their mouth shut), or something remarkably similar as shown by this article.

Anyways. After seeing so many devices with broken screens, I am skeptical. Sorry.

Oh, and frankly since Gorilla Glass has existed for more than a year now, it's likely that any special process they were using has either been stolen because they did not patent it, a method similar to theirs, but not identical, has been found, or something totally different but with a similar result has been done.

Anyways, researching glass is slightly more interesting than it sounds.

Sorry to say this but dude this is your fault. A phone with more glass is more prone to break. Verizon will not help you and its not their responsibility. I suggest you just call and put insurance on the phone, DO NOT let them know u broke it. A few days later file a claim. Because you have 30 days to insure the device I believe.
