Hi all,

You know the story - phone slipped out of my hands as I took it out of my pocket and watched it fall down 3 feet onto ceramic tile in slow motion. There is now a crack in the upper left hand corner of the screen. It still works on the bottom, but the responsiveness is now very glitchy.

I purchased the phone 7 days ago from Best Buy and I don't have insurance. Is there anything at all Best Buy can do? I read before that I may still be able to purchase insurance - is that a possibility/a good option to go through? How much would a deductible be?

Please, any advice would be very helpful. I am at a loss and am very disappointed.

Thanks

I just bought mine online and we get 30 days to purchase insurance. It's kind of cheating the system and I'm not even sure it'll work but it's worth looking in to. Good luck bud.

You should have 30 days to add insurance through your carrier. Call your carriers customer service and add it but do not tell them it's cracked or you won't be able to add it. They will add the insurance but you will probably need to wait a few days before attempting to file a claim. You will still have to pay a deductible of probably around 200 dollars since it's physical damage but that's better than full retail to replace it.

You may want to look into best buy's insurance as an option as well. Problem is they will probably want to see your phone before they will add it.

If both of those options don't work out, LG will probably repair it for a fee.

I broke the screen on my GNEX weeks after purchase. Sent to manufacturer and got it replaced for 150. Around the price of your deductible and does not involve you committing insurance fraud.

Nothing like stealing from an insurance company because of a mistake you made. I hate reading this kind of threads and they keep coming up. Just because you can add insurance and have them pay for it doesn't make it the right thing to do, you skipped on buying it new for whatever reason and you broke the phone. You should contact LG or some other local phone repair place and see what it will cost to get it fixed. May not be the cheapest thing to do but it is the right thing to do. Also go ahead and add the insurance so next time there is a problem you will be ready.

By the way this is not an attack to the OP, because he did not say that is what he was going to do.

OMG! I guess this did not come out the way I was intending. I was advocating an insurance plan that I have used and recommended. In my sons case, we bought a S4 through CostCo and they sold us that ins plan. My son broke the phone a day later. I was resigned to buy another phone until the CostCo guy said we were covered under the plan. I told the ins co what happened and they told me no problem. They also told me younhave 30:days to insure albeit if it not broken. I should have said this. Yeah, that didn't sound cool at first read.
