Screen dims and brightens for no reason

The screen dims and brightens back up unnecessarily and annoyingly. I have all battery saving settings turned off, auto brightness turned off and slider on full, and I have auto tone adjustment turned off in the display settings. Power saving mode turned off. I don't give a damn about battery use. I am usually at a source of power or carrying a power battery. I want the damn phone at full brightness and to stay there and it won't. I've soft reset and cleared the phones cache with no change. AT&T I-337 on 5.0.1. TIA
