Screen lights up automatically

The last few weeks I've noticed that my phone will be next to me on the sofa or on a table & all of a sudden my screen lights up for no reason I can tell. No notifications have come through so why is the screen lighting up? Is an app waking my screen up?

Do you have face unlock turned on. I know mine will do that when it is laying down if my face happens to go by the screen and it detects movement, trying to scan my face.

Nope I don't have face unlock turned on. I use the finger print sensor or a pin code to unlock my phone.

Try going to...

Settings > smart assistance > motion control > pick up. Then untick the option which says "wake up device"

Was thinking this but I have no idea what app it could be. Not seen my phone screen light up by itself the last few days so it's not doing it regularly.

Just wondering if you ever found a solution to this? I am now in the same boat as you and feel like I have turned every possible setting on, or off, and no luck!

Nope haven't found a solution but I don't think it's done it since updating to android 9.0 Pie. Maybe it fixed itself.
