Screen lock issue; can't wait til Sunday!

Actually, I don't even remember renaming the file I downloaded straight from the phone. When I hard press the file, I see it named PH98IMG.zip

Should I move it somewhere?

Hi Skater,

Here is a shot from my phone -- installed successfully about 2-3 weeks ago. You are getting close: please note the pathway at the top of the picture: /sdcard/ext_sd

Looking at your screenshots (the first picture), see the folder on the right-hand side of the screen, second folder down? ext_sd ... that is where you want to put the file.

I would move it and jump into hboot tonight, then unlock, put among ra on, and join the cool kids on the happy side of the mountains!

ES File Explorer makes the external card look like a folder -- it's a silly way of doing things but I find that it messes people up... we keep telling them to look for a separate card yet the pictures are telling them there is no separate card.

In this pic, my phone is connected to my pc and you can see two different cards: (your drive letters may vary depending on how many drives you have installed.
HTC Storage ( F: )
Removable Disc ( G: )

Open the picture and you'll see PH98IMG.zip installed on the Removable Disc ( G: ) --- this is the external memory card that people are talking about when they say "put it on the sd_card"

Another benefit of using the computer to download the file -- you can rename it from the RUU_VIGOR_whatever name to PH98IMG.zip pretty easily before you move the file to your phone... so many times, people think they have renamed the file correctly but they have, in fact, ended up with the name as PH98IMG.zip.zip and they cannot see it.

I downloaded directly to my phone and used Astro to rename and move the file. Putting the computer in the process is an additional step and this is what can be messing people up. If you are not using fastboot to install the file from computer directly to the phone why not remove a step and leave the computer out. Seems users are not seeing that the file is already a zip file they are downloading so all there is to do is literally rename and leave off the zip part if they are using the computer.

I moved it to ext_sd. Should I rename and remove .zip? I see yours still has the .zip at the end. This is my new screenshot.

You'll find out when you go to hboot. If you get in there and nothing happens, you need to remove the .zip, if it starts to flash, your golden.

This really isn't hard.
1. Download the ruu in .zip form
2. Uncheck fastboot in power options
3. Place the downloaded IMG file on the root of sd card, rename to PG98IMG
4. Power down phone
5. Hold volume down and power
6. Wait for update to finish

try hboot...sorry I am not much help tonight. Issues and all

That is OK, because I am not ready to customize my phone (knowing that this time the flash is going to work and I will be on a clean ICS slate) until this weekend. That being said, I may find a window of opportunity before then, but most likely not.

Oh ... and I have something for you, that goes along with your signature! LOL!

Cool .... thanks! I will be watching for that. I wish I were off work today so that I could try now and not wait until this weekend!!

Thank you for reminding me about turning off fastboot. I had it turned off and then I finally had to do a factory reset (cause I could not figure out how to stop if from rebooting) and then I forgot where the fastboot setting was located. It's off now and I am ready as soon as I have the extra hours to customize the phone.

You know, each time I tried last week I had the .zip in the name, but since learning some new things yesterday about the file manager, I know I had moved the file out of ext_sd and the file was probably sitting in the phone's internal storage the whole time instead of on the SD card.

The best part of all this mess for me is that I am LEARNING a lot!!

Good and once it's on the sd_ext or ext_sd (can't remember) and the name is correct you are golden.. I think you are actually fine as is and don't have to change the file name..
