Screen off memo - I Can't...

I like the Screen off memo feature where I can pull out the S-pen and start writing notes without turning my phone on! But none of the icons at the top of the Screen off memo work. When I press them, nothing happens so I can't change the width of the pen or anything. I checked my settings and don't see anything different from my wife's Note8 and hers works perfectly fine.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Screen off uses whatever your Notes app has set. The buttons at the top only switch between pen, eraser and save. If you want a different pen, you have to go into Notes and change it there. It will always use whatever pen is last used in the Notes app. It would be nice though if we could change it.

That's interesting, as @sandra_17 said I can change pen width in Screen Memo as well. Not sure if this would work but worth a shot. Try turning off Screen Memo in S-Pen settings then restarting your phone. After your phone restarts, try turning Screen Memo on again then restarting your phone.

Silly question, Are using your s-pen or finger to tap the icons?

-NM, I just did some testing and either should work. you may have a defect in your unit. you could try a hard reset and see if it works with a clean/default unit.

Cheers,

Thanks for the replies! I tried turning it off and restarting my phone, then turned the feature back on but I still have the issue. It has to be a setting because now my wife's Note8 does it... weird. I'll keep playing with it. The only thing I can do on this screen is press the back key and then a window pops up letting me choose if I want to save or discard the note. So I dunno?

If you installed the old S-Note app and it's associated apps, try uninstalling them. I had some odd behavior with screen off memo's when I installed those.

I have S Note and all of its extensions/add-ons, and it does not affect how my Screen Off Memo works.

The problem that was causing my screen off memo not to work correctly is the Cerberus app. Samsung in BestBuy fixed it!

After uninstalling a couple other apps that I thought it was I still had the issue but once I uninstalled this app the screen off memo works perfectly fine! Cerberus is an app that I like but I'll email the developer to let them know to see if they can fix why it's interfering with the screen off memo.

So I took my phone in to BestBuy and went to the Samsung kiosk and the guy fixed it in about 2 minutes. First he said he's concerned it's an app that is causing my issue with the screen off memo and then he told me which three of the apps he was concerned about and sure enough he was right. So he also optimized my battery and RAM by clearing the cache in the ram. At first we thought that is what did it but then the problem came back and I ended up uninstalling the three apps he thought it was and sure enough it was the Cerberus app.

Thanks for helping resolving a similar issue. It seems that apps that block the power-off menu while the phone is locked behave this way. I had Smart Lockscreen Protector installed and disabling it allowed me to access the eraser in the memo.

Here's the reply email I just received from the Cerberus app dev...

"Hi Nick,

Sorry but the only way to implement the block status bar feature is to block touches on the top part of the screen when the device is locked. Unfortunately there is no way for Cerberus to realize that other apps are opened over the lock screen, such as the camera or Screen Off Memo."
