I have a Galaxy S21 Ultra and have the flip cover case w/ stylus & an OtterBox Defender..

I NEVER mingle my keys and change with my phone when it's in my pocket.

Is a screen protector actually necessary or am I paranoid??

I'm tired of crappy and or expensive glass protectors and film protectors the tend to lift on the sides and top of my phone.

My screen is always covered via a case or flip cover unless I'm at home

Should I ditch them all together or hang in there???

Don't know. I never get screen protectors (or cases) and I've never ended up with a cracked phone, or with more than a few micro-scratches that are completely unnoticeable unless I turn off the phone and shine a bright light at just the right position and angle. Many others have the same experience. But some people, despite thinking that they're being careful, find mysterious large scratches on their phone. A lot depends on how well you're able to avoid dropping or banging the phone.

I get them because my work environment and i like my device mint condition

I never leave home without one on. I use AM film, which just like the whitestone dome. I had a drop last month, and it saved my phone. It's $40 for 2 of them, which is a lot cheaper than paying for insurance on a phone. With all of the trade in deals on new phones, I like to keep my phone in good shape so there is no issue when trading it in.

I had a glass screen protector on my phone. Phone was laying face up on a side table that was against the wall. A picture frame on the wall decided that it no longer wanted to be on the wall and fell. It landed, corner down, directly on my phone from a distance of 2 feet. The screen protector shattered, leaving the phone totally UNHARMED. I became a firm believer that day. Cheap insurance!

I use a case, but no screen protector. I'm in construction and transportation and take care of all my stuff (tools, truck, etc.). And yes, stuff happens, but it's a risk I'm happy to take. Hate screen protectors.

I also hate screen protectors, but I've been using a TPU protector on my S21 for a while now and I hardly notice it. I don't think it would help much from direct contact blows, but it does seem to help with potential scratches, etc.

I use an Encased case and a Tauri TPU film screen protector. It doesn't affect fingerprint scanning at all, fits great and for $11.99 for a two-pack it was cheap insurance for my $1,200 S21 Ultra.
