Screen scratches really easy

Screen protectors are a huge waste of money. I had my Droid X for over a year, no scratches. I had my Blackberry Storm for over a year, no scratches. I have had my Xoom tablet for 7 months, no scratches. My Bionic is over a month old and no scratches. I am wondering what you people are doing to scratch your screens. Mine stays in my pocket with the screen facing my leg, and the inside of my pocket keeps the screen nice and clean.

I always shared the same opinion of you until the Droid Bionic. I too have had the BB Storm1, Storm 2 and onto the Droid X before going over to the Bionic. Kept all these devices in my pocket with no special care.... never had a scratch. Had the Bionic just a couple of weeks...I dont know what scratched it. Kept it in my pocket just like all my previous devices.... never in same pocket as car keys. Never dropped the phone either. But something scratched it. One scratch on the screen that not only can be seen , but can be felt with my fingernail. :(

I hate screen protectors and find them a waste and hate they way they feel. But after two weeks, this Bionic ( which I still think is the best of all my previous devices) scratched way too easily. I too have had both my Storms and my Bionic for over a year... and the screens all looked great for being nakked all that time.

Huge waste of money? Compared to (at most) at $7 SP? New math?

Yeah,

I've had it a month now and it's perfect. It's in my jean pocket with nothing else or on my desk.

I'm not stupid enough to put it in a pocket with coins or razor blades.

Hope you're not stupid enough to ever drop it concrete then also.

I guess $7 isn't huge, but it's still a waste, in my opinion. I put a $30 Zagg invisible shield on my Xoom, and I hated the way it made the screen look. The texture of the protector was nice, but I could never bring myself to like the look of it. I peeled it off a couple weeks after I bought it, and never looked back.

I think anybody that doesn't use a screen protector is a fool. No glass is scratch-proof, just scratch resistant.

Agree that a Zagg on a tablet looks and feels poor. Apples and oranges though for a phone (and I don't like Zaggs on phones either, SGP for me)

I am still curious what is up with the glass on my Bionic as compared to my old Droid X. I was brutal with my X...it took many falls, and slides across concrete face down. The bezel was a chipped up mess...but the screen didn't have mark on it after a year.

My Bionic is a month old and has dozens of little micro scratches on the screen, and 2-3 that can be felt with the fingernail. It has never been dropped, and been kept in a pocket without other objects.

Yes, I could use a screen protector, but I have never had to before, and I HATE the texture, and look they give the screen. Also, I would rather simply insure the phone, then have to deal with removing a case when I swap the battery once a day, or deal with a foggy detail killing piece of plastic over my screen. That is, with my previous phones which had near unscratchable glass that is. On this one you pretty much have to cover the screen.

I'm not sure what's different with the Bionic glass, but it sure isn't the gorilla glass I have come to know and love in the past. I am starting to wonder if there was just a bad batch of glass?

I read these stories about people sliding their phones across concrete with no screen scratches. Everyone of them makes me laugh.

I guess I can see that, but I really have no reason to lie about it. The Bionic seems more like the early phones that didn't have Gorilla Glass (or another generic equivalent), like the iPhone 3Gs and under.

The only thing that did my Droid X screen in was when I told my brother it had a breathalyzer app and stuck it up to his mouth....where the drunken bastard proceeded to bite down on the screen shattering it... /sigh

i droppes mine 6in from the ground two nights ago and it shattered...i have beat the hell out of all my other android phones and never had anything like this happen and its $100 for my deductable so i will not be getting another one

Crap. Didn't notice that I had any stratches until I read this post. I was rocking my phone naked without any screen protectors, only to catch fhe faintest of hairline scratches on my screen. Oh well, time to start looking for a reason to trade in this baby for a refurbished units.

Same here, this week. Never had a scratch on my x, even while having it naked and working construction. However, the only time I can see it is when the screen is off. It doesn't cause much of a problem.

I ordered some glass polish and am going to try and buff the majority of them out next week sometime.

Weird I've had the Bionic since day once - keep in on desk or in jeans alone. No scratches at all.

I have a scratch on my screen. Looks more like a scuff though... it is between my back and search buttons so i don't mind it that much. Phone vs tungsten carbide ring. Nope, did know my phone was there when i slammed my hand on my couch armrest.

*sigh*

Same problem with my Samsung Droid Charge. Phone is less than a month old, I've babied it like crazy and now I have a few very fine micro scratches on the screen. If I run my pinky fingernail over the screen it's smooth as smooth can be, until I run over the micro scratches and you can feel them.

I use a carrying case, have only put it bare in my empty jeans pocket 3 or 4 times, and clean with a micro-fiber cloth. Although I haven't been super careful with the microfiber cloth and it often just lays around on my desk (so perhaps it accumulated debris).

I was not the least bit concerned because Oooh Gorilla Glass!! I watched videos on YouTube of people abusing the crap out of Gorilla Glass without a single scratch. My super-old Dare, had only one noticeable scratch from falling on the pavement, and for 3 years I just neglected that phone terribly, without getting any other screen scratches.

Something VERY odd is going on with these new Samsung phones. Either they don't have Gorilla Glass or they DO have an olephobic coating which can easily scratch. In which case who cares about the scratch resistance of Gorilla Glass? Or an olephobic coating if you need to install a protector to protect the olephobic coating from scratches. LOL

have had mine since launch, and stupidly kept it on my lap as i was getting out of a car a couple of weeks ago. phone fell onto the asphalt and now has a slight grazing / minor scratch or 2 on it. screen didn't shatter which i guess is the point of gorilla glass, so i'm happy (and mad at my incompetence). i didn't have a case/screen protector on it, btw
