Where do you carry your phone if not in your pocket? I don't carry a purse.Knives, keys etc. have no effect on gorilla glass. But sand particles will leave micro scratches. Never carry a phone in a pocket, I did that with my LG G5 for a bit and that phone had micro scratches. So its not a Samsung problem. Besides as most say, that's what screen protectors are for. I still use the plastic ones, cheap and easily replaceable. Just peel off and your screen is as good as new, even after months of heavy use.
I've had 7 smartphones over the past decade, always without scratches, always carried in my pocket, and never had a any kind of screen protector.
