Screen scratches so EASY

Knives, keys etc. have no effect on gorilla glass. But sand particles will leave micro scratches. Never carry a phone in a pocket, I did that with my LG G5 for a bit and that phone had micro scratches. So its not a Samsung problem. Besides as most say, that's what screen protectors are for. I still use the plastic ones, cheap and easily replaceable. Just peel off and your screen is as good as new, even after months of heavy use.

Where do you carry your phone if not in your pocket? I don't carry a purse.

I've had 7 smartphones over the past decade, always without scratches, always carried in my pocket, and never had a any kind of screen protector.

Doubtful..... Most likely you've just been lucky. Current Gorilla glass is more durable against breaks but easier to scratch.

This. What is more, there are various videos that show this and what it takes to scratch the glass on the front of phones -- the glass has not gotten any "softer" so that it scratches easier. The big issue is that dust typically contains bits of silica (sand), and that is hard enough to scratch any glass screen -- so a bit of dust in your pocket and it can scratch the glass on any phone.

All I know is had a 8+ for a year with no screen protector, front pocket and no scratches. If there were any, even a micro scratch would stand out using Gear VR. Ditto so far with the 9+.

I also faced similar issues of scratch and replaced display...but in new display also scratches comes easly...pls avoid opting s9 plus series

Ok here is my case... Got the S9 plus and got lots of micro scratches. I mean lots. After 3 weeks it fell from my lap and the screen broke (it has an Otter Commuter case!) . Had it replaced and its been a month and not a single micro scratch. This is weird. I mean... not a single one. ...and I am a maniac... hehee!

I got phone launch morning and baby my stuff somehow my plus has two fairly sizeable scratches?? Hasn't been put in my pocket with anything, dropped, or set on a hard surface. I'm dumb founded. Debating exchanging it or just ordering Whitestone in hopes it covers scratches

Hmmm, been using my S9 Plus since May 2018 with no screenguard and it's still flawless...

As for whitestone, i kinda had bad experience with it on my Note 8. The glue gets in between the lcd and bezel(in between the gap) i know it doesnt damage anything but ruins the cosmetics. Maybe im doing it wrong. Lol.

I suppose I'm one of the lucky ones. I carry the phone in my pockets all the time and have no scratches yet.

Part of the reason I did get the Galaxy this time around though was for the easier routes for repairing or replacing the device. I have insurance through Sprint as well.

A dedicated clean pocket for your phone is the way to go. it's not the glass, how we manage our pockets.

My s9+ is doing the same thing and it isn't a launch model the only scratches that was my fault is when it flew out of my pocket which only dinged the screen in a small spot and when it slid down my road recently when it first flew out of my pocket it was the day I bought it and between then and it sliding down my road whenever I didn't have a protector on it collected light and heavy scratches quickly and the last time I bought a protector it had already been opened and the adhesive was dry I have many scratches on my screen and I partly believe a lot of the heavy scratches were from the right front pocket when I wore pants with my phone in the front right pocket the metal button thing on the top of the pocket is what I believe caused the initial heavy scratches however even when I stopped putting my phone in that pocket it still collected a lot of scratches so I do not know depending on the protector and how thick or concealing it is determines how well it hides scratches and I have yet to find one in a store that hides them well but I have also only bought them from walmart

I will just say this...whenever I get a new smartphone, it stays in the house until I get a case and screen protector. I will do as much setup as I can, but it spends the rest of the time in it's box with all the plastic covering still on it until that screen protector and case gets delivered and installed.

Nothing is perfect. As soon as I got two thinnest-almost-invisible scratches on my S9+ after one week, I ordered a decent brand TPU type screen protector (like buff) which is trending these days for curved screens and are also recommended as available officially on bit high price from Samsung, and also from Spigen (aka Neo Flex). Yep, the feeling of touch is not that naked buttery but it is the most closest you would get with acceptable protection. They say it's dent & scratches heal itself. I have one less thing to worry and it helps for any rough use. Don't go for cheap screen guards, they suck and I have not seen an apt tempered glass for curved screens yet.
