Hey!

This problem was happening to a friend of mine since yesterday when we were able to find the root cause.
I'm not sure its the same for you, but you could give it a try!

He uses a "Game Tuner" application from Samsung, and when he selects a custom profile and open any game, the phone starts to behave like yours, even after he closes the game... the solution for now is to use a built-in profile like "High Performance" or "Power Saving".

Another thing that you could try is to force close the "Game Optimizing Service" application.
Go to Settings -> Application Manager -> Game Optimizing Service -> Force Stop.

I hope it helps!

Unfortunately, I am having this same issue, but I'm not using a game optimization service. I'm on Pixel 4A, and even though I upgraded last week, it only just started happening today (or maybe I only just noticed it happening today). Any advice?

What's your screen timeout set to? Just want to make sure it's not super short.

Also, this is when you're actively using the phone, and not when the phone is just showing the lockscreen, correct?

Screen timeout is set to five minutes.

So an example, I'll be playing a game and set it to battle automatically. It usually only takes a minute to complete a map on auto, so I set the phone face down so I can let it run then plan to pick it up and collect rewards. However, I noticed that when I was setting it down, very little comparative progress was being made, whereas before Android 12 came along, I'd clear the whole thing before my screen timed out, usually. This is very much a new occurrence, and since testing it out, it seems like if I'm actively touching the screen or watching a video, then it doesn't time out. Otherwise, the screen dims in about five to ten seconds and locks shortly thereafter.

It's not a new feature -- I've tested on my Pixel 6 Pro on Android 12.

What happens if you turn off Adaptive Brightness? Maybe it's dimming way too much because it thinks it's in a dark room when you flip it over.

Adaptive brightness is off. I just turned it on and tested with adaptive brightness on, and it still does it.
