I can't seem to get my phone to take a screenshot. Maybe I'm doing something wrong. Can someone please tell how to do it on a moto g phone?

Welcome to the forums. You need to hold the Power and Volume down keys simultaneously for a second or two. It's all about timing. I find it easier using both index fingers to press the keys.
