SD Card (16GB) not mounting automatically after restart

Haven't been able to resolve this using a search. Here are the details:

1. As you will see, there is nothing wrong with the memory card. It mounts and works OK.
2. Using a Samsung Skyrocket (SGH-i727) with Android 4.1.2, not rooted (yet).
3. When the phone is turned on or restarted it does not mount the memory card automatically. It does mount and it appears fully operational when Mount SD card under Storage in the settings is tapped.
4. I tried taking out the card, restarting, putting the card in and then restarting again. Problem is still there.
5. Some apps, including Google Music, do not recognize the memory card at all, even when it is mounted as above. Ditto for Winamp. Rocket Player does work.
6. There didn't seem to be any of the two problems before the Jelly Bean upgrade.
7. A while ago I tried a factory reset and reinstall. It seemed to work at first but then the problem returned.
8. Also, I've uninstalled apps that aren't being used and restarted the device.

Is there an app causing the problem? Is there an app I can use or something else I can do to diagnose the problem.
Any ideas?

I would wonder if the card is corrupt or needs to be reformatted. Do other SD cards work in your phone?

I don't think the issue is with the card because I have the same problem. I checked the integrity of the card on other devices, and they recognize it just fine...also I have tried other cards and get the same result. It does not recognize the card is even there. Has anyone been able to successfully resolve this issue?:'(

I have same issue. HTC Amaze 4G running stock ICS. Card will work for months then eventually stop auto mounting. I could go in after every start and just mount it manually but now I have to physically pop the card in and out and it mounts fine. I wish I could find an answer to this issue. I checked the card on Win for errors was fine. I deleted the hidden files in root of card- no change. Now all I get when I try to mount from OS is "Reset?" and no options- odd.

There must be a config file or some way to fix without having to reformat the card each time. (I would but copying 50GB back and forth takes forever)

So I fixed this issue on my HTC Amaze 4G! I spent a lot of time on it and finally it seems that when there are certain apps with tons of files it prevents the card from mounting.

I cleared off ALL apps from internal storage and put them on the phone. No effect.
I cleared all caches and deleted some apps and had over 8GB free on internal storage but external SD still would not mount.
I used a storage analyzer and that helped show some apps that contained a lot of files.
What finally led to my solution was using the Cleaning Tools in the excellent and worth every penny "FX File Explorer"
During the scanning process it would seemingly get stuck scanning certain folders.

My main 3 apps that caused this were Trimble Outdoors Navigator Pro, BackCountry Navigator Pro, and Torque ODBII automotive monitor.
I noticed the files were in a hidden directory that started with a dot like .trimble- some were not hidden.
I uninstalled the apps, deleted the folders, and the external SD began to mount again. ( I did not uninstall Torque just deleted the logs and turned off trip logging in the app)
I re-installed all of those apps and it continues to mount.
I noticed that Trimble no longer had all of my trips in it which is fine- they are there if I want to download them (logged in and all trips get synced to an online account)
BCN Pro I never use
Torque I use but I had it set to log every trip I made and it had a ton of logs.

I don't know why this works but it does.
If it stops mounting again I will report back- I am going to move apps off internal storage to phone storage and use the phone normally.

Hope this helps someone out there. Sure was getting to be a pain for me to pop the card in and out every time.

:)

PS- my SD card is a:
SanDisk - Mobile Ultra 64GB microSDXC Class 6
Memory Card SDSDQY-064G-A11A

I had this problem awhile back and what I did was unistall updates to google play music in the apps menu taking it back to the factory version. I had to do a forced reset when my phone after a freeze up right after installing an update to google play music, did many reformats of sd card to still have the same problem. Only after I uninstalled google play music updates did it solve the problem. I reinstalled the update with no problems. Every so often it is good to uninstall updates just to clear out some junk files that might corrupt the device.

Just an update- few weeks later and still mounting perfectly. Only 5.2GB free on main storage so it is clearly an issue with number of files in certain folders. I have also realized how much time and frustration this issue caused me now that it is fixed!
whew.

Hi,
I have SG S2 as well. Tried my 4gb external SD card and it was possible to mount it but not 16GB and 32 GB. Everytime, I try the bigger size SD card, it say, the card is empty. What causes it??

i am using samsung galaxy s4. My phone started having the same problem of not detecting sd card all of a sudden. i hve downloaded fx file explorer but i dont know which files to delete. i am not having any expertise in develper stuff,so if u can explain the procedure a little,it ll be greatly appretiated......

Adding onto the same solution posted before but for people who dont use those apps, if you are a rooted user using something like titanium backup, it possible that if you mount the sd card and hen move those giant backups to it, then the same concept will apply. i havnt tried yet so its worth a shot.
