I just got the S3 on Saturday. They put my SD card from my EVO into the S3, and there is a bunch of junk on there. Old files and folders from apps I don't use anymore and other files I have no idea what they are. I noticed under Settings/Storage there is a Format SD Card. Is it safe to use that? There's no neccessary Android files on there?

Also my phone has been on for 3h 28m and my battery is at 90%. The top 3 drains on the battery are Screen 32%, Cell standby 30%, and Maps 9%. I haven't even used Google maps, so not sure why that is there. Is there a way to disable it? I did update the weather app, would that cause the maps usage? And is there anyway to lower Cell standby usage?

Thanks

No... Don't use your phone to format the sd card. It will format the card to exfat file system. Exfat file system can't.be read by stock or custom recovery. You are better off selecting all and deleting.

If you prefer to format do so on the computer and only format to fat32 or fat16 (for smaller cards).

I always listen to Skunk and he is always right, except.....I did re-format my 32Gb SD card with the phone's format SD card utility. Maybe I was lucky? But my SD card is very readable from both CWM and TWRP (which i use now). I keep my music, videos, and most importantly, Nandroid backups (they are 2Gb+ each) and my zip files of my favorite roms for quick access. I always flash my ROMs from there with no problems and also I have restored from the SD card. just saying......(I wish there was a utility that could tell me what file format my SD card is actually in) Also if you do re-format your SD card, do yourself a favor and copy your files to your computer so you can get back files that you may want to keep. There were no system files on the SD card and it was safe for me to delete and re-format. Deleting everything without re-formatting would be a safer option. I like living on the edge.

I'll connect the phone to my pc and delete the SD card. I don't have SD card slot on any of my PCs. I'll be sure to back up all the files just incase.

About my battery and Cell Standby, is WiFi related to that? Because I've had that on all day.

Thanks

I think cellular data is the biggest drain on the battery so if you are using WiFi, you are probably saving quite a bit of battery usage. If you don't need GPS, turning it off might eliminate the map usage. I never get maps on the battery stats. Btw, the phone can still detect your location without GPS. It is just more specific with it on. Your battery seems to be doing fine. All in all, 90% with 3 and a half hours gone is very good.
