OK. I should know this, but since the 2.2 upgrade, I cannot find the setting to change SD Card options (ex: make it visible as a flash drive to my computer). Under 2.1, it was listed in "Settings".

Did a search, but nothing that dated post-2.2 upgrade. What am I missing??

Found it ... Not as easy as with 2.1, I have to say.

Plug in X to PC, wait until "USB connection" shows in pull down menu on home page (IGNORE the "Connection Detected" message). Touch "USB connection" and Lo!! The menu to change how the SD card operates.

So, so easy!! (Ha!)

Can someone help clarify the USB Connection options?

1) What's the difference between PC Mode and USB Mass Storage mode? If I select PC Mode, on my phone it says, "preparing SD card" and I can see how much space I have on it on my phone but it never shows up on my computer. The only thing that happens on the computer is it opens the V Cast Media Manager. If I select USB Mass Storage, I can go to my computer and open up the drive with my X stuff.

2) Is there anyway to stop the V Cast Media Manager thing from playing every time I connect my X to the computer? Or is this a good thing to use?

3) How do I backup my SD card? By just saving to computer?

Lastly, it appears that my phone will only charge when connected to the computer if I select "PC Mode." I left it on "Charge Only" and it didn't charge and then when I switched to "PC Mode" it started charging.

so this lets you see the internal 8 gigs? this was driving me nuts!

No. It just lets the computer see your SD card as though it's a flash drive. You can drag/drop files in either direction.

Much simpler than getting involved with that awful (and incomprehensibly complex) Moto program that wants to install when you plug in your DX with a USB cable. I click cancel to get rid of it and, if it installs accidentally, I immediately uninstall it from my PC. Only causes complications for what I want to do.

----- USB Mass Storage mode makes your X as a flash drive -- you can drag/drop files in either direction. The computer can "see" the SD card in this mode and you can open the X by clicking on the drive letter of your computer and you will get a window with all the folders/files stored on the X's SD card. I'm not sure what PC Mode is - Using the USB mode gives me all the flexibility I need, and I use specific apps to add movies or such.

----- Right click the "M" icon on the lower right of your computer screen, click "do nothing" on opening.

----- You can sync (depending on the programs/apps you are using) or, best yet, just drag/drop files from your computer (including music, ringtones, etc) into the appropriate folders on the X's SD card. And, you can drag/drop from your SD card to your computer.

This is especially useful to back up your SD card from time to time. Just create a folder on your PC and drag/drop all the folders from the SD card to your PC folder.

Lastly, it appears that my phone will only charge when connected to the computer if I select "PC Mode." I left it on "Charge Only" and it didn't charge and then when I switched to "PC Mode" it started charging.

----- If you keep your X in "USB Storage Mode," you shouldn't have any problems with charging. Then, if you want to switch to PC Mode (for whatever purpose that serves), you can do that at the time.

PS -- See above on how to switch modes for the SD card.

Hope this helps!
