SD card unmounting/ejecting all on its own

just tried this and then plugged my phone into the included fast charger. about 15 min later I get the sd card notification :(. I'll still keep system ui disabled and use only my anker powerport to see if that helps. Disabling battery optimization for system UI still sounds promising, thanks!

Howdy! One extra step: once you've de-optimized the System UI, try taking a photo with the phone (that goes onto the SD card) or move an app to the SD card. This way the SD card is engaged. My friend just tried this on his S7 edge and it worked.

Good luck!

still getting the SD card notification after taking a photo that goes to the sd card :(. For me avoiding the included fast charger has worked for me. I noticed the phone gets warmer than when it's charged without a fast charger...maybe that's what's messing with the hardware for the sd card reader?

I changed the SD card and deleted a bunch of apps. Samsung support says its a third party app thats making the unmounted notification show. Since I've changed cards and deleted a bunch of stuff, maybe 2 weeks now, I haven't had a problem.

Alright so I had this exact same problem. I have a 128GB Samsung evo card on my S7
(G930T) it would randomly unmount/mount check for errors had always had that persistent SD card is ready for use notification. I did everything that was suggested in the forum from. Formating the card though the phone itself to disabling power save for system UI and it still didn't work. But I think I found something. So two nights ago I downloaded an ota update that T-Mobile release for the S7 and installed that. Afterwards I was checking some things in the settings and think I have a solution. It hasn't given me that notification in two days and even avoids it when I restart the phone.

I'm not sure if it helps but I recommend just going for a clean start.

1. Back up your SD card.

2. Format card through phone
Settings // Storage // SD card // Format

3. Do not load anything on to card yet.

4. Disable notifications for external Storage/SD and system UI
Settings // Applications // Application Manager // More // Show System Apps

OR

Settings // Notifications // Advanced // More // Show System Apps

Scroll down to External Storage/SD and System UI and disable all notifications for them.

5. Disabled power saving options to the same two apps
Settings // Battery // Battery Usage // More // Optimize Battery Usage // Select All Apps from drop down menu

Toggle both apps off.
This will stop Android from force stopping and disabling the apps to save battery.

6. Close all apps and restart device.

This is what I did and it's been two days now and even when I restart my device it doesn't give me a notification. My music player doesn't reset my playlist count and everything is working smoothly.

Also check is there is an update available for your device and install it.

I hope this works for you guys.
Enjoy.

I just happen to catch a set of notifications on my s7 where the SD was being ejected and mounted again. My phone is just charging and I was not doing anything other than powering on the phone to the lock screen.
1) this explains the random SD card notification that appears from time to time even though there was no phone restart
2) this likely explains why when an app is moved to SD, the app drawer shortcut switches between non-working and working at random times.

hopefully an update from Samsung can fix this issue. Or this could be a hardware SD card problem. I have the Samsung 64GB class 10 sd card from the Best Buy bundle.

I got my new S7. I have sent to other one for repair. They changed the motherboard. Then it came back with the same issue. Then Samsung sent me a bran new S7. I have no more SD card notifications at all. Not even when I reboot the phone. Yesterday (again) I was listening to music (a set of 2 hours long) from my SD card. I started to look at pictures (again) at the same time. After 40 mins or so, my phone stopped the music and stopped being able to read my SD. Everything froze and I had to reboot. Then, again, a few mins later (listening to music and looking at pictures), it did it again. On the second time, I was not able to reboot the phone using the power button (keeping pressure for 10 seconds). I had to do it using the volume down/home/power. The phone screen was totally black and there was no way to unfreeze it. My notification light was flashing blue (as I had new emails and text), but the phone was not responsive at all.

It seems like Samsung just removed the SD notification as a whole in the new phone but did not fix the issue.

For those who don't have the issue, before commenting, I would appreciate if you could listen to music and look at your pictures at the same time (all from the micro SD card) for at least 30-40 minutes.

I strongly believe that ALL phones have this issue, but that those who don't just have not access pictures while listening to music (demanding on the SD card reading). Do it if you can... and see if it creates problems. And let me know once you did the above.

I forgot to mention. I am a computer and smartphone savy. I flashed all my S1, S2, S3, S4 on a daily basis. I did purchased another SD card (even if my sandisk is working perfectly on my S5). I got a Samsung evo 64gm. The issue remains on both SD cards, and before you comment about it, YES i did reformat on multiple occasions both with my pc AND within the phone. I also did factory reset on multiple occasions. So it is not the SD's the problem. Just trust, I did everything possible.
I have also downloaded the app called "SD Card Monitor" which provides all this information. Someone know how to attach a file on this site? I don't see the option. My phone Says May 16 at 555am unmounted, then 555am BAD_REMOVAL, Then 547 Mounted. This is just an example of all. It happens 3/4 times per day. I also had this with my other s7...

I did all of this multiple times plus hard reset, plus trying 3 different SD which all works well on my S5. I am at my third S7 and its always the same s****. It seems to happen very often with the camera to SD, but it also happen with Gallery and Music. It also happens when I sleep loll (the app SD Card Monitor) keeps track of all this. I don't think its a software issue. I really believe Samsung did not do right with this device = lemon.

This may not be everybody else's problem but for me, I discovered today (after multiple reformats and a factory reset) that Samsung Pay Simple Pay option was the problem. Turn off Simple Pay within the settings of Samsung Pay app and the sd card should stop self-ejecting.

Just in case anyone is wondering what it looks like.

I have the same problem, and had it for a while, at least since Android 6, on a Sony Xperia Z3 Compact, so it's not a Samsung issue. It's Android, and I believe it's related to cpu and power saving. If there is not enough activity in the cpu to keep the sd card alive, it gets ejected. My current workaround is that I've installed a WakeLock app to keep the cpu running at a minimum to prevent the sd card from ejecting when the screen is off. It doesn't eliminate the problem, but it makes it occur a lot less frequently.

Hi there!

I had this same issue and tried many different strategies (factory reset, changing out the SD card, formatting the SD card, etc.), but it kept unmounting itself and/or displaying the notification.

The common thread in these notifications was that they only occurred when booting up the phone or waking it up, which made me think about Android M's new Doze feature and whether it was affecting the System UI, which is the app that produces these SD card notifications (to confirm this, long press the SD card notification and click the settings icon and it will take you to the System UI app information).

As such, I tried the following:

-Go to Settings and select Battery
-Tap More on the top right side and select Optimize Battery Usage
-Change the dropdown menu to All apps
-Scroll down to System UI and deselect it to de-optimize it

Since following these steps yesterday, the only time I see the SD card notification is when I restart the phone. I have yet to see it appear at all between restarts.

I hope this works for you!

My memory card had issues of unmounting on its own then i formatted my card for a while it was fine after that i used a power bank to charge my phone once instead of my fast charger again the unmounting issue has started while charging only so i tried your suggestion and plugged on the charger with sd card mounted and it didnt unmount while charging, thanks for sharing this tip

Can you help in letting me know does your battery life gets affected by de-optimising the system UI
