SD Card Unmounting Itself

I have an Acer iconia tab a210 with android 4.1 JB.
I just started using a PNY 32 GB external SDHC card. This card frequently unmounts itself (ca 50 times per 24h). Then I tried a 8 GB SD card.
This card does function without any dismounts! Therefore I went back to the shop and received a new PNY 32 GB card. Unfortunately this card also frequently unmounts itself... So now I am lossed. Probably an issue of JB with large SDHC cards.

Having the same problem over and over again with 8 Gb Samsung Cl.4 SD and 32 Gb Adata Cl.4 SD. Sometimes after unmounted/damaged/etc. not working SD in Phone will work on computer or aren't being recognized at all. In Windows or other devices the card is than dead.

However so far with only the program Gparted in Gnu/Linux or the live-cd you can unmount the partition of the SD and repair the SD. The prblem here every time is: FILESYSTEM NEEDS TO BE ENLARGED TO FILL PARTITION COMPLETELY. After that repair the SD's work again every time. Only my Phone does the corrupting of filesystem SD-card, the cards never have problem in other devices.

Could there be the problem ?

hi.. just wanna know if we have fix with this so far?

mine is already in FAT32 but SD card still unmounting itself from my phone.

i have sandisk ultra UHS-1 32G class 10 with a speed of upto 30MB/s..

is it really true that its a bug from sandisk with the ROM JB 4.1 and 4.2?

Hi I read most of post on here and had the same problem. So, i went with the basic advise and shoved a piece of small cut busines card on the top end of the sd card. Its working like a charm. I have the samsung infuse 4g and using a 32gb sd card. I believe the problem is in the mounting housing of the phone. Afterwards, my boot up time was drastically faster as well. Hope this helps. I dont think any of the files are corrupt, just the space which holds the card in place. Just make sure u make the piece of paper long enough to pull it out when you want to remove the card on your own. Trust me, this was driving me to the point of getting a new phone.

What if its a micro sd card, with the same problem. And it cannot fit in the laptop. I cant get an adapter for it neither.

If your using GO LAUNCHER X / GO X LAUNCHER don't put it in the default. That's my problem for 1 half month I'm suffering from erasures of my files like musics and photos 13-15 times and i try 2- 4 times BACKUP then re-download apps and set launcher as default "IT STILL NOT WORKING" it erased it self again! ,I 1-3 FORMATTED then re-download apps and set launcher as default "IT STILL NOT WORKING" it erased it self again! I RESEARCH IT FOR SO MANY TIMES and any techniques DOESN'T WORK! so i gathered some ideas and solutions on google and when I tried to analyzed anything and I REALIZE something that X LAUNCHER is not the same with the ORIGINAL default/launcher of your phone and it comes out that you shouldn't put in GO LAUNCHER X / GO X LAUNCHER. And I it tried it and it worked. If it doesn't work then maybe try to back up or format and still not work maybe your SD/PHONE has something wrong. HOPE IT HELPS :)

i tried method suggested - bisnes card on top, reformat to FAT - not working. still unmount issue persist.
then I changed from sandisk to Apacer, and the problem stopped.

My sd card went to **** all together luckily i have it backed up on my comp... I have to get another card.

Morning everyone,

I'm running JB 4.1 rooted but without any customization. Starting this morning, my 32gb sd card started to randomly unmount itself. The only solution is to remove the card and reinsert it to get the phone to recognize that it is present.

I removed the card and inserted it into my laptop to see if there was anything odd about the files. I scanned it using Avast and no threats were found. I did download a .rar file last night from androidcentral for fonts, however, I have since deleted it, suspecting that file may have had something to do with it. Unfortunately, I still have the problem. I also deleted a folder that showed that it had been created minutes before I noticed this problem. Explorer showed it as empty and Avast indicated it posed no threat.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have read all the posts and have seen where most have mentioned that it started recently or all of a sudden. I have used the same card since i bought my TBolt on its orig. release date with no problem. I've even been rooted from that time and had to buy another phone cuz it died and used that card in my replacement for several months until a series of recent app updates from the Market. Which one or ones that caused this aren't for certain at moment. After the updates, my phone started displaying unmounted card or damaged card, reformat messages. I bought a new card (thinking the card was bad) and it does the same thing. I am also noticed at times will not maintain a mount for longer than 10-20 min. after a re-seat, revolutionary recovery remount, and power up. Once it unmounts, it wont event remount from the phone storage settings without going through the those steps again. It definitely looks like a bug or a phone issue for sure that is affecting mounting of the card.:(

After reading several of the other responses, I simply replaced the sd card and haven't had a problem since. Figure I'd rather replace now and salvage my photos if the card is going to go bad than lose everything.

Hey guys. I posted this in the roms section, because I thought it might be tied into an issue I'm having with a rom. But I'm starting to believe it's just a coincidence. Throwing it in this thread because it seems to have a lot of knowledgeable sd card people, so here it goes...

Fresh install done. Now we wait it out. But here's my issue, and I don't think it's rom related, as much as it is a coincidence. Yesterday, I was listening to my music via the stock music player (Poweramp was 1 of the things having issues). The music stopped, and the pop up error on the phone went something like "Card error. Can not read card or it was removed".
It seems now, the phone. nor my computer will even recognize my micro usb card/ It's an 8 gig scandisk.
I've had this phone since day 1, and don't remember if that's the card that came with it or if I bought a new one. Anyway, I just plugged in a friends micro usb into my computer. I forgot to look to see what size gb his card was, the computer picked up on it right away. So I know it's not my computer, nor the micro card adapters that I'm using.
I had some pretty important backups on the card. I can always get my music back, and photo's are dropboxed so who cares. But I'd like to get at my sms and titanium backups.
Any thoughts?
I've tried the first 10 things listed on google with no luck. Is there anything I can do if the computer isn't even recognizing there is a removable storage inserted?

EDIT: It's a samsung micro usb. SO I guess it is the one that came with the phone

I didn't read all responses but read elsewhere that scanning SD card on your PC is a fix. After encountering this problem in my previous device, I tried it and it worked.

Actually, that's not how it works. The update gets downloaded to a hidden partition (/cache) on the internal memory, and unless the phone is rooted there's no way you can get to that file.

If you did have an intact update file (not just any old zip file will work), you could put it on the SD card and boot into Recovery mode and manually load it. The Recovery mode sequence for the S3 is Volume Up + Home + Power, but I have no idea what it is for your phone. I'm sure you could Google it.

i have the M8 One and have the same issue. Here is what I've heard from talking to people. I'm no expert and I can't say this is 100% accurate but basically...

The tray the M8 uses to hold the SD card can flex slightly or be jarred and the sd card loses connection for just long enough to cause the mounting/unmounting loop. As the phone ages and is exposed to heat the issues seems to be more common and happen more frequently. The easy fix it to put a few layers of tape on the contact side of the SD card opposite end the actual contacts.

In light of someone else saying sticking a business card in the tray worked I think there might be some truth to it. I put some tape on mine and been working fine since.

I've been fighting the same problem with my LG G pad--tried everything including formatting in the pc, running chkdsk, and reinstalling--within 24 hours it had unmounted itself and erased everything on the Sandisk micro. Tried your idea with the calling card and jammed the sd card back in and it's working perfectly for the first time.. Thanks!!
