SD card was unexpectedly removed, apps missing.

I have a Moto E 2nd generation with Android 5.1 which worked fine yesterday.
The last thing I did was to copy my photos to Dropbox and to my SD card.
Today, it took about 20 minutes for my phone to turn on with a message that it was loading the 47 apps. Now, I have a message that the SD card was unexpectedly removed and to unmount it before removing. I am missing several icons & apps including the photos icon & app. What is the best way to fix this? Thanks in advance!

This is a common issue, not just with the Moto E but a a lot of other phones. To fix, turn the phone off. Remove the SD card. Put it into your pc. Copy all the files from the card to your drive. Now format the card. Copy all your files back to the card. Reinstall into the phone and turn it on. You should be good to go.

Thank you very much! It worked. The error message went away. I am still missing the photos that were being transferred to the SD card and several icons, but I had sent the photos to Dropbox. Not sure what to do about the icons. Is the problem Android or the SD card? Again, thanks!

Probably Android but I don't really know.
