Hi all.

The 3 features I would really like to have are:
  1. Free wireless tethering (for my tablet)
  2. Google Now
  3. The excellent camera that I'm used to on the stock Rez
  4. The excellent camcorder that I'm used to on the stock Rez

From what I saw in ROM descriptions, only Nils' Business offers Google Now; although, no one at XDA will tell me how functional it is.

Just hoping you folks can recommend the right ROM.

Thank you! :)

To be honest I turn google now off. I find it annoying. I didn't know Nils had put it in his ROM but I can tell you his work is some of the best there is. Very dependable and stable and Nils himself is a very responsive dev. Whenever I've had a question in the past he's always answered it himself. Any of his stuff will be a good choice. I'd definitely go with his Sense 4 based ROM.

Joelz's ViperREZ has been my ROM of choice pretty much since it came out. I stray to other ROMS here and there (currently running AOKP JB rom by neo) but I always seem to come back to it. With the Venom Tweaks and VenomHub it's so customizable it's ridiculous. It's also exteremly stable and reliable.

I'd try them both for a week each and see which one you like best.

If you're feeling adventurous you could try Newts ICS/JB hybrid. I ran it for a few days but it needed some work which he has done. I haven't tried the latest update to it but its got some good potential.

Just make sure you make a nandroid and enjoy the flashing!

Thank you for the input, Wanda!

On ViperREZ, how solid are these?
  1. Camera?
  2. Camcorder?
  3. Wireless Tether?

I do not see Google Now listed as a feature on ViperRez, but you're obviously not missing it much. :D

I had Nils' Business Sense on my DInc - I'm counting on it being pretty solid on the Rezound since this phone is used for business. Did the wireless tether work well for you in Nils' ROM?

(I asked about this in the Nils' Biz Sense ROM thread, but no one has responded. I understand Nils is busy these days.)

I can't speak to the wireless tether because I've never used int but there are plenty of people that do use it so I know it works on both ROMS.

On ViperREZ the camera works great. Both modes work as advertised and the camera even has a good "panoramic" mode that I don't remember being in the standard sense 3.6 camera. You may have to turn off "face detection" but other than that its a great camera. I've got kids so having the working camera is essential so I understand your need to have it working. I've left ROMS before due to lack of a decent camera but the sense 4 camera is very solid.

Most roms have tethering working in them. I want to say some you have to use it in ad hoc mode, and not everything can tether that way. I'm on shrikes new pacRom, and I enjoy it. Camera seems fine, the main problem now on the JB roms is video tearing, and the camcorder is a bit wonky. I'm a fan of the tablet ui, so the paranoid android settings are straight up my alley.

Really can't go wrong with mist rims right now. The JB aosp roms are super smooth, and I could not say that about the ICS aosp roms. If you want a great sense4 rom, hit up the mik mik and check out hawknests eclipticRez. Its my favorite sense rom, and its still getting updates.

That's the one. As always, just make a nandroid before you flash, that way if it is not your cup of tea, you have your old phone back in less than 10 minutes.

Also, if your a titanium backup guy, restoring apps is a bit different because the SD card is labeled different for aosp bases ROMs.

PACMAN, right?

And, thank you ... I feel less apprehensive about being stuck without the features I need.

Personally I don't like the Pacman screens. It makes the type just on the side of too small to read without having to focus on what I'm reading...and I've got 20/20. You'll see what I mean when you flash it.

Also, twolastnames is spot on with the Titanium gouge. It was a bit of a rude surprise but here's how I got around it. After you've flashed to the AOSP or AOKP rom's and you re-install Titanium, you'll have to go into you're SD card (I used ES File Explorer) and find the Titanium Backup on SDcard1. You'll know you've got the right one cause the dates on the files will match with when you did the backup (the dates in the file names read with the year, month, day, time in Zulu....ex: 201303041934, that's 2013, March 4th, 1934 zulu or 2:34PM Eastern). So, find the right files, then do a copy to the empty Titanium folder without any backups in it. Problem solved, you can now restore all you're stuff.

Thank you for explaining that there is a bug & how to fix it, guys.

I have been using Titanium Backup on my tablet; so, it's good to know. Ever tried an alternative app that compensates for the change?

It's not really a bug it's just how either JB or AOSP/AOKP ROMS read and partition the SD card. It's one of the reasons why I get frustrated with AOSP stuff and I end up nanding back to a Sense based rom.

And no I pretty much stick with Titanium. It's always done a great job for me so no need to switch.

There was some discussion in the aosp development thread on xda about this. The main thing is that nexus devices don't have a sd card, and so google doesn't have it coded the same way everyone else does. I'm not smart enough to know why, but there are mostly cons to having the actual sd card labeled sd card in aosp roms. They label the internal memory sd card, and the actual sd card either sd card2, or emmc. Its easy enough to just move your backup folder, but if you flash a lot, its one more step to getting set up all the time. As far as apps that would fix it... Maybe titanium has an option to just point it to a different folder?

Also, if you have not flashed already, neo just put out a fantastic update to his cm10. 1 rom infection. Also, looks like hawknest has an update ready for his sense4 rom.

Thanks for the insight!

I'll be on the lookout for hawknest's latest. I was about to flash newts update but looks like they're having an issue where the phone goes Tango Uniform when it hits 15% battery. Not good on a phone with a crummy battery life already.

Which one is Neo's cm10.1

Neo's got a bunch of them floating around. It seems to me he doesn't update them he just puts out another one instead!! :p:D

I don't think he sleeps! The one twolastnames is referring to is the first one I linked.
I've flashed all of them and they're all very good but....well, I guess I'm just a Sense guy.

In case you didn't see, Hawk is moving his stuff to Android-Edge The coredroid suite that he used for customization was pulled by XDA for being kanged from the Viper rom guys, which it is not in my humble opinion. So now if you want his build, gotta go to his site.

What does kanged mean here? Ripped from? Stolen?

I've never seen a definition of it but that's what I think it means...or maybe more like, "creatively borrowed."

lol. I'm sure the code just fell off a truck. No biggie.
