Send a complaint to Google Play about Nexus 7 shipping

I just ordered the nexus 7 on 28th June..no case..no magic beans..just the 7

Not heard about delivery, so the case may delay things..but equally, it isn't the only reason for delays

I am now concerned that worst case scenario it won't be santa that delivers, but that mad bunny that comes at Easter

I'm in the same boat.

I ordered the 8 GB version with NO CASE, NO ACCESSORIES on June 28. My card hasn't been charged, nor have I received any information regarding shipment.

In an amusing bit of irony, I just got an email today from Asus' mailing list that preorders for the Nexus 7 can now be ordered from them :)
I think they're a few days late :D

Gamestop is also giving 10 free games for the Nexus 7 as well. Granted, this is something Gamestop does for all of their tablet/android devices, but when combined with not having to pay for shipping any reason to buy from Google Play is completely negated.

Where do I get these 10 free games? I got mine from GS and haven't seen anything about free games.

I've pre-ordered from other online retailers (Amazon, Gamestop, etc.) and had my item be it a book, game, movie, etc. arrive on release day and on occasion, as early as the day before release depending on how close I am to the distribution center. So to say that stores always get products first isn't entirely accurate. They may indeed receive them a day before release, but most won't put them on the shelves until the next business day (or in the case of a midnight release, at midnight that night making it technically release day).

You must been lucky. I have never received a game i preordered online the day of release, always 1-2 days later. For this reason I stopped preordering online and preorder in store only unless its a digital download.

So a crowd sourced article on one of the biggest sites on the internet isn't a reliable take on the widely accepted meanings of specific words or phrases?

I'm afraid so. If wikipedia were a reliable source, that you would see major news networks/websites citing wikipedia regularly.

Edit: What I meant to say, that if you want to voice your opinion whether it be insensitive or insightful, that's fine...run away with it (as long as you can take the criticism) But if you are going to back those opinions up with facts, and reference those facts with sources, they have to be credible sources. Even Wikipedia's founder, Jimmy Wales has stated that Wikipedia shouldn't be used as a source.

Mr. Wales said that leaders of Wikipedia have considered putting together a fact sheet that professors could give out to students explaining what Wikipedia is and that it is not always a definitive source.

Just as an example, Pre-order on wikipedia shows no sources. It's just an informative article based on popular opinion, not fact. Nexus 7, on the other hand is an informative article complemented with sources that are footnoted at the bottom of the article. These sources are even linked for you so that you can read them fully and perhaps use them as a source like Wikipedia did.

But hey...I'm not trolling. (I actually sympathize since I'm waiting for my pre-order too, and I can see both sides of the arguement) I'm hoping that my insight might help you to be able thoroughly win some discussions on the forums here.

While I understand your reasoning, I'm afraid you can't expect to win others support by citing wikipedia as a credible source. Unfortunately, since wikipedia is still considered very editable, it's no more of a source than saying "my uncle said" and not naming who he is, and his job and title. I'm not trying to troll here, I'm just tying to give you a better tip on having a more solid source to base your position from.

to order something such as a book, DVD or handbag before the item goes on sale, to ensure that you are one of the first people to get it.

BOOM! HEADSHOT!

Please stop trying to argue that a pre-order isn't a pre-order. Everybody knows what a pre-order is.

LOL, I don't think you quite understand the significance of the point. The definitions and usages of words don't exist out there independently of human thought and usage. Definitions are derived completely from observed common usages in human language. That means a (neutral; we have no reason to assume bias here) crowd-sourced article on the common usage of a word is probably correct. If Google is going to enter the game of human language and use the word "pre-order," they better adhere to the common meaning of the word "pre-order."

The only exception is in regards to technical and scientific jargon, and this isn't a case of that.

They can hide behind technicalities all they want. The loss will be theirs.

It will be patently obvious to anybody that only suckers buy devices from the Play Store and eventually the Play store will be a failure (wrt device sales).

What is the value of a Play store pre-order when you have to pay shipping and don't get it earlier than a retail store? When there's no added value, any rational consumer simply goes to the next store where the prices are cheaper and the service is better.

All those defending Google here. I'd love to know if you'd tolerate the same behaviour from Amazon, Walmart, etc. Or would you just take your money elsewhere? Or complaint about the poor service you received?

Google clearly wants the margins that come with a Play store sale. The retail channels mean they pay a 10% tax to Gamestop, EBuyer, etc. Not only does a Play store sale preserve their margins, it might even actually inflate it through shipping charges (their policy says they simply charge shipping on the most expensive item...so if you order just one item, you are in essence overpaying). If they want to preserve these margins, they better offer some value through Play vice traditional retail. If not, it's the Play store that will fail in the end. Simple as that.

Then explain pre ordering for apple devices when they're not shipped two to three weeks (or longer) after they go on sale in stores.

I agree with that completely! Technically, they kept their word. But they lost a lot of goodwill in the process.

@crackberrytraitor: I didn't have a problem or disagree with your opinion, I just spoke up about having you give a better source. Please think of yourself as a better person for doing so!

And if Google does what people expect them to and makes sure that street date penalties are a lot harsher next time, what then?
I'll cross that bridge IF we come to it. Based on what I have seen, I might as well speculate "what if" I get a raise that doubles my salary this year.

I noticed Google sent mine 2nd day air even though I didn't pay for it. Maybe they are doing it as a courtesy for the bad shipping last month?

Try the Nexus 4 as well... Why do we take it ? The Nexus 4 is pretty amazing right? I was so excited for this phone that I called in sick for work, set up multiple browsers on auto refresh, and spent 6 hours with the most disappointing e-commerce experience of my life. It was all worth it in the end though, when I finally got through! Wrong! A couple days later I received an email letting me know that I canceled my order. Huh? When I contacted support, I was greeted by a friendly voice explaining that Google never makes mistakes, and it had to be my fault. I went back in forth with them for a day hoping that someone would help, or at least look into the issue. Well? I was met with more nice passive voices letting me know that I can definitely have a Nexus 4 in 6-7 weeks if I order it today. I am 27 years old, and I already miss the days when a company had to care about their customers.

Ironically, I ordered from MacMall and waited about one month. I have no complaints.

I have just emailed a complaint to Google Play about my device which I order on Wednesday 5th December, it told me it would take 3 days to ship. It finally shipped on the 12th which is 4 days later then they said and I also paid ?9.99 for a two day delivery so my device should have been here on the 14th or 15th. I'm never purchasing a device from Google Play's website again and I've told them this loud and clear and have also told them I would like a refund for ?9.99, if you would like the email address it's googleplay-noreply@google.com :)
