Send a complaint to Google Play about Nexus 7 shipping

I still can't find where it said pre-orders would ship first. I would argue though that they were for sale at the play store first. But also the launch was neither late or early. It was within the 2-3wk window Google announced. I personally did not pre-order, but once I heard Sam's club was selling I headed out the door.

And you won't. It's generally a given and in many cases does happen. Just so happens this time it didn't work out like that.

I think you actually are mistaken about the cause of this ruckus. This isn't about gamestop pre-orders. What people are miffed about is that many pre-orders have not yet even been shipped out yet when the launch day was yesterday, including many who signed up the first day. People have been walking into Staples, Office Depot, Sam's Club and Wal-Mart and buying devices without pre-orders. And this was not a mistake, Google signed off on it. Basically they aren't even shipping out many peoples devices until Monday which is days after they have been available to the general public at numerous brick and mortars. That's not how a pre-order is supposed to work, and if anybody had known that's how it was going to go down, most of us wouldn't have spent an extra 20 bux with tax for shipping.

If that's what they're all up in arms about then that's what they should've said. Every post I read was Google vs GameStop vs Asus.

Here's wikipedia's definition of a pre-order:

A pre-order is an order placed for an item which has not yet been released. The idea for pre-orders came when people found it hard to get popular items in stores due to their popularity. Companies were then given the idea to allow people to reserve their own personal copy, before the release, which has been a huge success. Pre-orders allow consumers to guarantee immediate delivery on release

So according to wiki, I didn't get a pre-order.

Well, if you read the threads (I wouldn't if you don't have a pre-order, not worth your time) that's not the big issue. Anybody who's upset that Gamestop got their pre-order's first is a big baby. It's obvious that GS would have their shipments ready for launch day, and those people pre-ordered too.

Stores ALWAYS get product first. Shipping to these stores does NOTHING to limit playstore orders because Gamestop's order was placed MONTHS ago.

I understand that very few people work in retail, let alone in an industry that deals with Street Dates, but this is a common practice and typically a GOOD one for all companies and consumers involved. Where it breaks down is when you have a shady retailer (like gamestop) that ignores street dates coupled with a company of optimists (Google) who don't make harsh enough penalties for ignoring them.

It's a HUGE logistical undertaking getting a product to hundreds or thousands of outlets by launch and this is one of the first times Google (even with the help of Asus) is attempting it. Google NOT shipping to gamestop would NOT mean they would ship pre-orders earlier. The two have nothing to do with eachother.

I've pre-ordered from other online retailers (Amazon, Gamestop, etc.) and had my item be it a book, game, movie, etc. arrive on release day and on occasion, as early as the day before release depending on how close I am to the distribution center. So to say that stores always get products first isn't entirely accurate. They may indeed receive them a day before release, but most won't put them on the shelves until the next business day (or in the case of a midnight release, at midnight that night making it technically release day).

What part of "Gamestop IGNORED the street date" didn't I make clear. If gamestop played by the rules, pre-orders WOULD be getting their devices first. Gamestop decided to refuse to play by the rules they agreed to to get the device at launch. I'm hoping Google blackballs them, and hopefully there is a stiff fine as well. Shady practices like that hurt EVERYONE because it disincentives companies from creating multiple launch locations, which is bad for consumers.

Gamestop is at fault here, NOT google.

It wasn't just Gamestop that ignored it. Walmart, Sams Club, Staples all ignored it too. I have a couple friends and coworkers who all had their Nexus 7's on Thursday after work.

I actually did email them a complaint through their Google Wallet portal. Basically I told them I was fine with Gamestop customers getting the same perks ($25 credit) as we (Google Play Store pre-orderers) do, until I learned that they were getting theirs first (and not having to pay for shipping -kinda like salt in the wound). Especially since I pre-ordered the day before Gamestop announced that they were accepting pre-orders. I also asked them why I should consider pre-ordering anything from Google directly for future orders.

Edit: BTW I ordered mine on the afternoon of June 28th, and I still haven't received a notice of any tracking #. But I haven't gotten my account charged either...

Gamestop is also giving 10 free games for the Nexus 7 as well. Granted, this is something Gamestop does for all of their tablet/android devices, but when combined with not having to pay for shipping any reason to buy from Google Play is completely negated.

Ordered mine at 530am on the 28th and I'm in the same boat as you...no tracking number and yet to have my account charged.

I'm actually fine with the box stores releasing them. I don't know what agreements they had or with who, I don't know if Google actually said "hey, don't release those yet", but what I'm not fine with is that I've yet to receive my tracking number or have my card charged when I placed my order at 530am on the 28th and people who ordered up to a few days ago are getting that information and/or already received their pre-orders. The orders should have been shipped the way they were placed...June 27th, 28th, 29th, etc.

I'm not so upset about the whole retail availability issue. I am more upset about the fact that I ordered on the 27th, the 16gig and a case, and mine has yet to be shipped. Google is not sending these things out in the order that the order was received as they should be. I spoke with an entirely unhelpful customer support earlier and they said that I have to give them 3-5 days to process all the orders...They've had my order for 2 1/2 weeks already, I should have been one of the first batches to be shipped. What is the point of paying for 2 day shipping when the ship data can be anywhere up to 5 days after the release date, and apparently not in a first come first served order.

Based upon my conversation with a Google rep, he indicated that my order would ship Monday or Tuesday. I ordered on the 27th, but I'll probably get mine next Friday. Annoying.

I only called because my credit card company didn't even show a pre-authorization for the amount.

EXACTLY, I don't understand why this is such a hard concept. People who ordered first should be receiving their tablets first. I was considering buying one from gamestop and then refusing the one from Google but I don't feel like having an extra $250 bucks charged to my account until Google gets their tablet back and refunds my money.

Did you order a case? Rumor has it that the cases are holding up shipments. I ordered the 27th with a case and have no tracking number.

Yeah I ordered a case and an 8gb on the 27th. If i would have known it would be holding things up I would have ordered a case elsewhere. Just when I ordered there wasn't any other cases available and I wanted to make sure my 7 was protected lol

I called Google customer service yesterday to complain about not getting my shipment, knowing people order it after me i they got it before me.

He mentioned that most of the people who got their orders are the people who ordered the Nexus 7 alone without any accessories.

I ordered mine with the accessories.

Google should have taken a page from the big retailers like Amazon and shipped in 2 parts to those with accessories. The first being the tablets and the second being the accessories whenever they became available.

They, Google, could have also added that caveat to the accessories stating it may cause delays and then give people the option as Amazon does, to ship in more than shipment.

While I understand your reasoning, I'm afraid you can't expect to win others support by citing wikipedia as a credible source. Unfortunately, since wikipedia is still considered very editable, it's no more of a source than saying "my uncle said" and not naming who he is, and his job and title. I'm not trying to troll here, I'm just tying to give you a better tip on having a more solid source to base your position from.

So a crowd sourced article on one of the biggest sites on the internet isn't a reliable take on the widely accepted meanings of specific words or phrases?

I just ordered the nexus 7 on 28th June..no case..no magic beans..just the 7

Not heard about delivery, so the case may delay things..but equally, it isn't the only reason for delays

I am now concerned that worst case scenario it won't be santa that delivers, but that mad bunny that comes at Easter
