Sending video from s7 via text??

Your not listening. Google messenger, textra, messages are all SMS. They have severe limitations on size files. Go find an old basic phone and send a picture. Same results. Messenger services run off data and have the ability to send large files.

Yes you're correct it is sent through data but by an old standard (MMS) which really wasn't meant for big video files. Also the carriers simply don't allow big files to be sent this way -- hence why you need another way (links, another app, etc.) -- iMessage goes through Apple's servers so therefore bypasses the carrier (Except for using data like any app such as YouTube or whatever).

I think we all can agree that messaging on android is a cluster. And it's apples fault. Apple made a really good messenger service that does what everyone wants butis not C cross platform. Them iPhone users get all whiney because of the green text, boo hoo, that apple insisted that wasn't done on purpose to annoy iPhone users to get them to whine to their friends with non Apple devices to switch to Apple because people who use iMessages don't want to switch to a different app that covers everyone. Meanwhile, Android users have 2 dozen options to send messages easily to anyone but no one can agree on am app.
Send a video to iMessages from Android and it looks like crap, they whine, send them a perfectly usable link and since it didn't pop up on their messages but had to take an extra 4 seconds to open it and they whine.
So, over in Android land we are trying to get around the perpetual whining from Apple users by trying to work around it and threads like this happen. Hopefully RCS will fix it, but the carriers have to get on board otherwise we end up with more non integrated messenger apps.

I can say my friends don't whine like that lol. They just click the link to watch it I send a video.

You are so spot-on!! I think it's Apple's fault that we all can't play nice & get along. I tried iphone7 a couple months ago & returned it before my trial period ended, & went back to Samsung GS7. There was so much that bothered me about iPhone. It felt like going backwards technologically. And I was using a Samsung GS4 before that. The main reason I tried iPhone was to be more compatible with ALL my family & friends who have iPhone. And sending videos was the main reason. It's possible to have a messaging app that is compatible with all platforms, but Apple screws it up for everyone. Apple lost me as a customer because their snooty, exclusive attitude is ridiculous. And causes countless people daily headaches. There's no way I could convince everyone I know with iphone to download a separate app just so we can share videos.
What is this RCS you speak of that might fix it?

I've had problems with Google Photos and video, too. To be fair, I haven't tried it with my S7. I do, however, use OneDrive and back up videos there. When I share links, it plays back flawlessly. Iirc, I saw something about setting up a new OneDrive with a new S7 nets you some nice storage space. I've been really happy with OneDrive and how well it works with my Galaxy devices.

Really? Isn't OneDrive a Microsoft product? I find it intrusive on my PC since I'm already very organized without their help. We have so many options for cloud-based sharing (mobile and online), but I'd rather use MMS (it is not SMS once you attach media, btw) without the significant amount of lossy that occurs when Samsung devices convert videos. They expertly share IMAGES without degrading quality, but annihilate video. It is embarrassing to share vids with iPhone family and friends because they do it flawlessly. I hope the fix to this will be in the OS and not another app to suck up battery life.

iPhones do it flawlessly because it's not MMS, not iMessage.

I don't think there's an actual spec but I've read that most providers agree on 600KB as a maximum limit.

This won't be fixed until RCS gains more traction (and Apple supports RCS as well).

Bottom line, nothing is going to fix MMS in it's current state.

It's not Apple's fault.

They saw that MMS sucks for how people use messaging and implemented iMessage for their platform.

RCS stands for Rich Communication Services. The simplest way to think of it is the evolution of MMS. Like how MMS came about because SMS is severely limited, RCS will replace SMS and MMS eventually.

Technically - iMessage when linked to a cell phone number is cross-platform.

This is not Apple's fault at all.

Do you understand that sending a video using iMessage could use a generous amount of your data plan? Many people switch to iPhones, and then go 'I have never gone over 2gb before! ' Well, since iPhones use data to send iMessages, and you use that beautiful video to send to others, so goes your data. And uses the recipients to receive and view it. To minimize, you would connect to Wi-Fi; so should the recipient-but you can't control that (unless you preface in the text, 'connect to Wi-Fi, this is a large file! !')

What you are failing to understand is ALL you have to do is use Google Photos. Then use it to send a link to give permission to watch that video, and it will play at the resolution you took the video in. Google photos uploads in Wi-Fi by default (you could change that, but use up your data plan). Apple iPhones/iPads uses your data indiscriminately if you don't watch out. Android does not. IPhones/iPad have many technical leaps before they catch up to Androids. It will take Apple till 2020 to have what Android have now....but by then, Android will already be on the next wave of industry standard features. I am not knocking Apple, it's a great platform. But not all things are Apple's (ha) and Oranges!

People are too lazy for links. They want these in-line.

No, it's not. Unless I can get imessage on Windows, Linux and android its not cross platform. And it being apples fault was tongue in cheek.

iMessage falls back to SMS and MMS.
