Sense 4.0 multitasking - hands on impressions?

call me crazy but this multitasking "issue" is totally a non-issue for me.

OK, you are crazy :)

i guess i just dont need to be running 6 apps at once. maybe it's just me. ive found no problem switching back and forth between 2 apps.

I am glad you are not noticing the problems. I suspect you eventually will.

i can guarantee that if htc makes a patch for sense that allows tons of apps to run at the same time people will start complaining about that. poor battery life will undoubtedly be one of the new complaints...

Wrong. Background apps know they are in the background and consume no power at all unless they need to be doing something (unless the app is just defective). For example, when you switch away from Play Store, it should continue to download and install/update stuff you told it to, until it is done, then it will suspend all activity. Most games will instantly suspend all activity when you switch away, because there is no need to do anything without the screen.

For the people who rooted their Evo 4G LTE, I wonder if the V6 supercharger script can fix this broken multitasking design. If you haven't heard of the V6 supercharger script, I highly suggest you check it out.

Try this simple test. Open your browser and surf to a page, then open Gmail and try switching back to your browser. The browser will immediately reload the page. This is unacceptable to me. The page should not reload.

I tried to make mine restart apps and it hasnt. I can even pull up an app from last nite to where it was when I left it. Went from chrome browser to email, then sent a few texts, back to browser, then here to android central app.

I'm sure u guys have happening what u say is happening. Haven't had problems yet, but I've only had it for 36 hours or so its just a matter of time.

Hope we get an update to fix all of the issues.

the page didnt reload. even still in the same spot that i zoomed to. as per your instructions, i opened chrome, went to a web page, hit home key, opened gmail, opened an email, scrolled around, hit recent apps button, and clicked chrome. popped up fine right to where i was before. no reload.

even if it had to reload whatever page i was reading, so what? it's still the same web page. again, maybe im crazy and in the minority. but i dont even consider this an issue.

edit: i again tried to see why this was such a problem for people. i opened a new website in chrome, hit home key, opened handcent, opened a text thread, scrolled around, hit recent apps, opened gmail again, opened an email, went back, opened another, hit recent apps, opened chrome, scrolled around, clicked links, hit recent apps, went back to handcent........

you get the picture. i did this for about 3 full minutes bouncing back and forth between handcent, gmail, and chrome, opening different web pages, text threads, and emails. never once did the phone reload one of the apps. no lag, no reload, no problems. and this was me TRYING to get it to give me a multitasking problem. as i said before, i guess im in the minority with how much i actually do with my phone. i think i do a lot. but i guess some people are wanting to do a ton more. at that point i ask myself, if this much productivity is important, why try to do it all with a phone?

my biggest issue with it is ill be playing a game, then get a text, and when i go to answer the text half the time itll kill whatever game i was playing. Doesnt happen all the time, depends on how intensive the game is and how long im away from it. Its pretty annoying though. And then i better not even think about tryong to answer a text while watching netflix, even if i leave it for a second it completely reloads

I'm still waiting for mine, so I might be biased, but to me, this is completely unacceptable. My free Optimus S (gingerbread) with 512mb has no problems multitasking. Obviously the EVO outperforms every other phone in almost every other category, but for it to fail at multitasking is a dark day for operating systems everywhere.

"Hey, I just bought a new pickup truck, it looks really cool and everybody wants one but the bed is unusable." Wait, that's just the SSR :)

Edit: I just read back to ericj12's post and my spirits are lifting. Even my optimus will reload web pages if I'm away too long. If it's just a memory thing, hopefully a custom ROM or 3rd party app will help make the pain bearable. This news has really led my eyes astray -- read: "S3, wherefore art thou?" Oh if I could just hold both of them in my hands at the same time... *clears throat* the phones that is.

Dang, everything else on this phone is perfect. Guess I will learn to live with it. :-(

My biggest complaint is trying to multitask while using pandora. When you exit the app the music keeps playing, but when you re enter the app it reloads. Super annoying.

Anyone who doesn't have a problem try this: put a large file (any thing that takes a few minutes will do) in your dropbox from your computer. Then export that file from your dropbox to your phone. While the file is exporting go do anything else. Write a text, do anything. Then go back to dropbox and check to see if the file is still exporting.

I am glad yours is working that way, but that is not how mine acted before I rooted. I was posting some information in a forum, jumped to my gmail to copy some information and went back to paste it in a post only to have the page reload and all the information I already typed vanish. Those were the only two things I had done with the phone. I don't think that was asking too much.

Oh, try downloading a big app and then switch to camera and take a few shots. I go back and it has completely aborted the download and restarts Play Store as if I had never been in it. If that isn't a good example for you to see why it is such a problem for people, I don't know what is.

Ok, I see it now. Not a major deal to me, but will be annoying on occasion with a slow-loading site reload.

I tried your test and fired a play store and started a down load, then went back to browser and picked up exactly where I left off (still zoomed in) with no reload.. in the mean time gmail kept runing and playstore finished download and install in the backgournd...Cant figure out what the heck people are talking about...

To be sure I can listen to you objectively I am requesting you to publicly declare that you are not affilaited with in any shape pr form with HTC or Sprint or it's affiliates.

Can you give some examples where it's worked for you so people know you are being objective?

wow really? why would he make it up? i believe him because i've had the same experience with this "multitasking problem" which in reality is no problem at all for me. and i can assure you i have no affiliation with htc or sprint. if i did i wouldnt have paid $200 for this phone and i wouldnt pay over $200 each month for a family plan...

Cuz he jutts in every thread and just sing songs/praises... :) not you.

Hope no one gets offended. There is a US law that yo ucan't be affiliated nad not tell on forums BTW.

ive been singing my own praises. i love this phone and everything about it. the people that have done nothing but complain about it should just return it and find something else.

and that sounds completely ridiculous. show me proof of this law...
