My ADD kicked in and I decided to let the update install even though I was rooted. Baseband version is now listed as S: D700.0.5S.DI07

I am pleased to report that my root remained in-tact after the update. It did not "break" my root, and I did not have to "re-root". I didn't have to do anything. In fact, I am using wifi-tether to type this post.

Hancent can do this. I love how customizable this app is.

Handcent can do What? IO already use handcent but I can't make it my Default messaging app.

The work around I use is to disable all notifications in stock messaging app, then configure hancent to give notifications..

If you have handcent installed, then the very first time you try to use a messaging app (say by replying to a text from the notification tab) you should get a pop-up asking you if you want to complete the action using "messaging" or "handcent SMS" and then there's the "set as default" box underneath that which you can check. Once you do that then handcent will be the default messaging application. Even if you tap on the stock messenger icon in the dock at the bottom of touchwiz, it'll take you to handcent as soon as you click on any individual conversation.
