Sep 16th Update

just got my update, wanted to make sure I posted for anyone still waiting :) so you know it is coming...wife got hers yesterday morning...

Central MD and still no update. I remvoed root access and still nothing. Tried manual updating sever times and reboots and still no update. The only things I have removed are asphalt5, nascar and amazon MP3. Might have to resort to a factory reset...

Edit: All the "one clicks" in the world couldnt save me from this issue. Even manually typing couldnt. Had to factory reset to get the update and Ill be flashing the andromeda rom right after.

So, I know there is supposed to be an update today that enables media hub and some performance fixes. This morning around 4am an update was pushed to my phone. I installed it but it looks like the installation failed and rebooted my phone again. Everything is still the same and my firmware version is still 2.1-update1 like it was when i got it. Also, media hub still doesn't work.

I thought the forums here and at XDA would be full of people talking about the update but it seems it hasn't been pushed out to anyone yet. I feel like a guinea pig, ha. I tried to update firmware again, but it says i'm up to date. This is weird. I know I got a popup saying an update was available. Phone rebooted into recovery mode and started installing. It then said installation failed and gave me options to reboot, factory wipe, and something else I can't remember. I chose reboot and now I'm back at square one.

Anyone else gotten a push yet? Might have to side load the update when they release it. My phone is rooted with andromeda kernel installed, and I have a different launcher (ADW) but other than that it is stock. I still have root and it seems nothing has changed. Oh well, back to waiting I guess.
I received the update on Sunday morning at around 0400. All went well and the Media hub is active

I hate this update.

My battery life hs been cut by 1/3.

My phone lags like crazy. I seriously typed up to has before anything showed up.

The autobrightness now sucks. I turned it off.

Same problems here. I went to Best Buy today and they were surprised how slow my Epic was. They said take it to a Sprint service center. Since this wasn't a problem before the update I am going to try a hard reset...if that doesn't fix things I'll return it this week. Too bad there are all these problems because I really like the Epic.

Yup mine is slower, has frozen up twice, and the battery life was also chopped!!

I have a feeling this will be going back by the weeks end.

Ha, wow. When I made this thread I had no idea it would still be going now, much less making the front page. This is kinda cool. Well anyway, I hope everyone is enjoying their Epic and hopefully this update is doing good for everyone.

Eh, it's okay, not too much excitement.

I have been experiencing the same problem with battery life and lagging.

With airplane mode on I have been experiencing 2-3% decrease in battery per hour with NO USE!!!!!!!!

This is completely rediculous and unacceptable. Do they even test these updates before they push them out to eveyone.

I have juice defender and an autokill app. I was getting 1 1/2 days before the update. I am lucky to make it to bed now before my battery is dead.

I am getting really sick and tired of this phone really fast... If they don't have these problems fixed by the 30th. Its going right back to the sprint store and I am going back to the iphone.

First off, I want to say that the Epic 4G is my first Android phone and I throughly enjoy using it. It's a breath of fresh air, coming from a Sprint Palm Pre (not to say that the Pre is a bad device, just it didn't have the software support I wanted) and before that an iPhone first gen.

I downloaded and applied the Media Hub update manually, and I was and still am rooted. WiFi tether works. That was the first thing I tested after the update applied without any issues. I have noticed some lag, though nothing to the extent of "I'll return this phone because it has so many problems". It's a new device, people. It's bound to have issues. I bet when Froyo drops for the Epic a lot of these issues'll be solved. I remember similar complaints about 2.1 on the Evo, and since 2.2 came out for it they all seem to be fixed, though don't quote me on that. I don't have an Evo, nor will I get one in the near future. I'll muddle through and wait for fixes. Don't ask me why I'm so patient... I just am. Heh.

Didn't know this but it appears media hub only works on 4G or WiFi.

New movies are like $12.99 to buy or $2.99-$3.99 to rent.

TV shows are $2.99 to buy.

You can watch previews on the movies and the quality seems to be as good as movies I put on my phone manually.

I just tried it and Media Hub works fine on 3G (albeit slower than WiFi and 4G, and I only let it load the thumbnails of the available features, but I bet it'd DL stuff just fine as well).

When it comes to the quality, I agree. I've watched a few previews and they've astonished me as to how good they look on the 4" Super AMOLED display. I've never seen a 3GP look so good (assuming that's the format they're using. Videos recorded by this phone are recorded in 3GP, unless that's one of the many formats that can be used.).

I got the push update on Saturday. I accepted it. It downloaded. I didnt see any difference but I knew it was mainly for the media hub. I ran the hub and was able to get onto the site. Looked around nothing to impressive. A bunch of semi new to older movies for $2.99 to rent 19.99 to buy! Prices suck. Movies were old. I'm not sure why anyone would be to excited about this. If this is supposed to compete with netflix and redbox they have some work to do. I checked to see if anything new was in the hub yesterday and I'm getting a could not launch message.

While you're of course entitled to your opinion (and yes most of the stuff being offered is old and/or semi-new), I think that Media Hub has potential. If Samsung wants to take on NetFlix, then I say DO IT. Bring it on, etc. Competition is good. Choice is good. It's just launched. Give it time. More deals will be made and I bet there'll be regular additions to the selection. My bet is that once they roll out Media Hub for all the Galaxy S devices (assuming they plan on it) it'll be a huge hit.
