Hey all...

A friend of mine was up to mischief. She downloaded SetCPU on her S3. I have no idea what she did, but now the phone won't boot. No custom recovery, no stock recovery. Tried another S3's battery. Nothing. Just plain dead.

Can someone help.

Thanks!

Well SetCPU requires a rooted device. So something she did very well could have bricked or pooched the phone. Being it's rooted and won't turn on, she is probably screwed even if the phone is under warranty. I would contact the developer of SetCPU, best suggestion I can give!

Thanks mhinc. The phone is very much rooted (by me). She clicked on 1400 mhz max and 1200 minimum or something. Post that, the phone went into some sort of mode and didn't turn on. So she pulled the batteries. BOOM! Gone!

Anyways thanks for the suggestion. I will contact the dev.

I'm wondering if the CPU has been fried, hence not even being able to boot into recovery.

I was thinking the same. Even if the phone was bricked, there would still be power. With no power at all, I am also wondering if the CPU is toast. If that is the case, MAYBE, just MAYBE she could get away with factory warranty through Samsung. I mean if it's nuked anyway, why not at least try. Worst they can do is say no, it was rooted...

If your phones rooted and u have SetCpu this kinda behaviour cannot be blamed on SetCpu... I hope are not a victim of Sudden-Death issue... By the way what baseband r u running on your phone... The way uve explained your situation I think u don't have XXELLA....

Thanks Hassan. I am not blaming SetCPU at all. It is my friend who screwed up and she has admitted to have committed the crime. :P
Two questions though:
What is Sudden-Death issue?
&
What is XXELA?
I'm Sorry as I don't owe a S3 so I don't know what these terms mean.

The sudden death issue is more common in the i9300 and it's basically the Motherboard dying.
Whether the phone was second hand or not, as long as it's within a year of purchase it should be fine.
Did your GF register it on Samsung.ca? Or did the person before her do so?
Either way you should still be able to warranty via Samsung if within the warranty period
