[SGSIII][Sprint] Android Central Rom and Kernel Library

Thanks. So as far as back ups go... should I go to the original room I backed up and start over so I can back up the other things or would that be over the top?

And Clark's great. Really making it easy for noobs like me :p

I'm just a power hungry user with no back up or extended batteries yet. So I need that awesome battery life that was in v7 I'm fine for now though. And I just thought there would be jelly bean animation. No real problems with booting the rom.

Edit: Clark said 8.1 should be available later on today and he's given it out for testing now. Cool. And Oh yeah. What the Hell is a super charger?

I was wondering that myself...

If you want to go back to version v7 no need to go back to start. just download v7 put it on you ext sd or your internal (I perfer external.). Go into twrp and just wipe cache, dalvik, Factory reset and system (DO NOT FORMAT DATA IN TWRP). That's it! you are ready to flash v7. Don't try and over think things it really is pretty simple. Things such as themes nomally get cache and dalvik wiped first. mods and modems don't normally need any kind of wipes, just flash away.

As for backups. I would move your original one to your computer. I only keep my most recent 2 good backups. I don't back up the whole system in recovery for every little thing. once I got the rom setup the way I like it I back it up.

Things on my phone that get updated frequently(such as my check book) I back up daily or before flashing with titanium backup. All of my user apps I back up just the once as none of those setting matter as they are easily reset back up. While it is completely safe to restore apps in Titanium, when you restore the data some of it may be corrupted. I restore as little data as I can get away with.

After a little bit, you will learn figure out what works best for you as far as how often you backup.

As for bricking your device, here is some advice.

1. Don't be the first one to flash a new rom, kernel, mod or theme.
2. always do some reading. See how it's working on other peoples phone first.
3. don't volunteer to test things for someone unless you can afford to brick your phone without blaming the developer.
4. always have at least one good backup on your phone

Follow these simple rules and you shouldn't have a problem.

Do I get v7 on the computer or can I use the update me app using the modem flash thing? Or is flashing a different modem different from flashing a different version of the rom?

Just relax... I'm testing it now... Been testing since around noon. doing great so far!
Don't get version 7... Wait

Flashing a rom and a modem are two completely different things I also don't think you can use update me to go back to v7. you would have to download it and put it on your ext sd and flash it. Relax don't panic!! :D

If you don't get notified of the update, you can go to his thread but his servers are swamped at this very instant. I will be supporting him by providing him a mirror download site as soon and I can get it updoaded. I will post it here as well. It looks like the upload will take around 45 minutes to complete.

I will have a link in this post as soon as the mirror is up.

Download link is Here.

Happy Flashing....

No problem at all. It's the least that I can do. Seeing as I was the one needing all the help only a year ago.

Link is up in my previous post...

Okay so I can get to my computer now. Do it the same way I installed v8.1? Except this time do a wipe and factory reset?

Then restore my back up from after I rooted my phone originally?

Then restore everything from titanium? And I should be back to where I started in terms of everything in my phone?

Sorry for flooding the thread the past week also Lol. Xda has to much going on. at first I couldn't make an account over sprints internet. Now I can't post anything in the development forums because I'm not experienced enough. I've been stalking it every day though. Unfortunately no one over there is time enough to ask the basic questions like me. So I'm here. Thanks for your patience.

If you want to restore a backup you don't need to wipe anything. Go to backup and restore. Click on restore, choose the backup you want to restore and go for it. Don't wipe a thing.

So theres no need to wipe anything from 8.0 to 8.1? I have a couple ui tweaks and a theme installed (although I would like to remove the theme so I can download jelly bomb when it gets here)

Ok.... I thought you wanted to restore a backup. We'll make this easy.

Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik.
Flash rom

You should be good. If you want to be extra careful you can wipe system.
You don't need to do a data factory reset.

Never do the format data with twrp.

Just Flash It !!!

Cool thanks

Clark is really on the move v9 should be out soon. Same question... what kind of wipe do I need to flash it?

And this aroma installer everyone keeps talking about.. only for people with cwm right? I'm using twrp. They keep discussing themes in the aroma installer. Are these the same as the themes that will be in the update me app?

The theme in aroma installer are just that aroma themes. It just changes the background color of the installer it does nothing to the Rom.

Twrp is exactly what you want as it supports open recovery and cwm doesn't.

I would just wipe cache, dalvik and system. If you have any issues you can go back and wipe/factory reset. Again never format data with twrp as it will format your entire internal sdcard and you will lose everything there.

Lol this thread has basically become "Rom and kernel library/FreeGS3 support and updates"
I'm not complaining though, it's a great ROM :D

Not for long... There's a new rom I'm testing right now. It is pre themed and it's smooth. Not all the custom tweaks yet but it is very well themed.

There is a fairly good chance I will host it here on Android Central and moderate the thread.
