Unless triggering flash makes the phone also speed up the shutter speed? I haven't tried it on the Note 8 yet, but on some older phones I had, using flash even when it would do you no good for the composition would produce different effect since it would have changed shutter speed and possibly other settings as well.

If it sped up the shutter speed then it would also have to increase the ISO which is something normally not desired.

My never ending quest to take pictures of the moon from a cell phone camera... Note 8 attempt is my best so far.

I was forced to suffer, along with many of you, with my Note 4 after my N7 was recalled. at the time it felt like a step backward. going through old images from after the N7 return. this shot was taken with my N4. 100% crop no pp, straight out of phone with nothing done in camera either. uninspired image as is. only wanted to show the quality of the cam. surprised me when I found it. didn't realize I even had the shots. this chair apparently attracts dragonflies.

that is amazingly good, even at full size on a computer

thank you. I saw it sitting in my dropbox and thought "what is this?" I looked back at dates, etc. and I had already returned my N7. I was sure it was a lost N7 pic. can't wait to see what I come up with on the full image with pp. should be fun. :)

...and a couple of shots in the yard! I have to get in the truck and get out to get some damned scenery!

...it's cranked down to about 28' - it goes up to 55' when it's up all the way!

Now what were you using to capture it? I just went out to take one and I couldn't get it to come close to looking like that? What were your settings?
You have to use "PRO" mode, not Auto.
And a very steady hand.

Small local fisherman's church.

Very dark inside despite the windows. Was a very dark, grey day outside. Phone did well considering.

Sure the Pixel 2 xl is great but the Note 8 has better scores on noise, lowlight, artifacts and zoom. I prefer double cameras and optical zoom.
