Hey Cats -
Like some of my other posts, the SIII continues to confound me.
Back in the good old days (two months ago), Samsung's DLNA flavor, AllShare, was simple. Turn on WiFi, launch AllShare, do one of three things. It was simple, intuitive, and although Microsoft sucks... it worked most of the time.
Now, there are twelve different variants of showing a picture from one DLNA device to another. Now with Kies, S Beam, Android Beam, WiFi Direct, NFC, Nearby Devices, BlueTooth, AllShare Play, and all the other XYZPlay variants, quite honestly, it has gotten too complex and there is a general lack of quality, if any, documentation. Yes, I am an old man (50) but I freakin' invented the networking industry. The variations of skinned solutions is simply maddening.
Here are my desires: I want to play a media file that exists on my SIII, on my wife's SIII. I don't want to jump through flaming hoops, build Samsung Accounts, create "yet another cloud service," upload to my PC or network storage, or share on every freakin' 802.11n device within a 25 mile radius at light speed. I don't want to transfer the file from my phone to her phone. I want her to simply see my device, choose play from a "playlist" selection so that she can see it on her device. Very simple, no accounts necessary. If she chooses to want the file, then an option to download the file would be nice or we could simply do the ridiculous - Turn On NFC, then figure out whether it needs to work via Android Beam or S Beam (really??? another skinned solution for an embedded OS solution???).
End of rant... and some help would be appreciated.
