Shipping Not Free On New Pre-Orders?

Guys,

Looks like they are now offering 3 different shipping options, and only the 18.99 for expedited will get us the phone by the 19th-20th. I was going to put an order in for a Pixel 2 128GB Unlocked, I picked the 64GB earlier to tide me over until my Panda ships, but now I am confused if I need to pick the 18.99 to get it on release date.

That must be really new, because I placed an order on launch day with free shipping and got a delivery date for Oct 18th.

There are 3 options for shipping. If you choose expedited, they usually ship those last. So let's say the shipping date is the 17th. If you choose free shipping, that will take 3-5 business days. So this will probably go out the 15 or 16, and expedited, which is overnight will go out the 17.

I think only those who chose next day shipping will get on 18th. Those who selected free shipping will be getting 3-5 days later. They will shipping the first batch on October 17th, so based on what you selected for shipping you will get either on 18th or few days later.

I chose expedited and I have a ship date of the 17th and a delivery date of 17-18. That would be sweet if it was same day delivery!

It seems odd though that no one else is getting free 2 day shipping. I always thought that that was standard for any orders, at least that's how the Verizon CSRs explained it. I've been with them since 2000, maybe that's why.

Expedited isn't slower than free. Free will ship first but get there after. Free shipping will take 3-5 where as expedited will be over night.

It's not. They are talking only about shipments around launch day. If Google wanted folks to get them 10/18, for expedited shipping, they wouldn't need to be shipped until 10/17. For regular shipping, they would have to leave earlier to arrive 10/18.

Depending on a bunch of stuff (the OEM, the shipper, etc), expedited shipping for launch day might be "wasted". It's happened with me on some Samsung releases. I paid for overnight shipping from VZW, but folks who didn't also got it on launch day. This isn't always the case though, and there are times when folks with all kinds of shipping get it sooner than launch day too, etc.

For all later "ship" dates though (those set for after launch day), the expedited shipping will get you the phone faster than otherwise of course.

I ordered right at its release, and don't even recall seeing different options - I was in such a rush to maximize my chances of getting in on the initial bunch of XL's though, especially since I had to wade through the financing process, that I may have missed it.

But tbh, often times the 'free' regular shipping will be as fast as expedited. All depends on where you are in relation to the distribution center from which it will be sent, and their effective pricing (in some cases the 'expedited' method might end up being selected as their free option)

Even for launch day if I remember correctly Google doesn't ship out free shipping early. They all ship around 17th and based on what kind of shipping you choose/how close you are to the shipping warehouse etc you will receive at various days starting 18th.
We will know next week what they decide to do.

I just went and added one to my cart and went to the checkout step, there was never any option to change the shipping? I don't remember seeing an option on my original purchase either. Maybe it depends on your location?
