In order to install the SMU updater app do i need to delete all my ported apps (2.1 gallery, launcher, genie widget...etc) before i install sholes?

and is overclocking the droid dangerous?!

and one more noob question...is it easy to go back to stock OS so i can get the official update??

I dont think you need to delete anything, but I think it will delete when it flashes to the new ROM if im not mistaken, so back up anything you want to keep.

It wipes the system but all your data should be fine just choose not to wipe data

man this process has me nervous, all these warning saying NOT to do it, and it will void my warranty

They just font want to be liable for you messing up your phone. Or voiding your warranty it will not harm your phone to root it with that just make sure you flash back to stock prior to warranty visits

did it a few days ago. easy as pie, i even went back to stock last nite and now im back rooted with sholes 2.0.3. seriously easy. they haqve a step by step over at droid forums.net.

question....I was rooted but went back to stock to try something out. I am trying to root again and keep getting this error:

E: can't open /cache/recovery/command

Any ideas?

at what point of the process do you receive this error?

after I do a reboot while holding down x...after that I hit the volume up key and the camera key and that is where I get the error

just to be clear:

as I understand from reading the setup instruction in the app itself, unless you intend to use the 2.1 rom, you do NOT need to wipe all of your data.

I just did this last night, rooted, flashed to 2.0.3, and did NOT wipe my /data. upon reboot everything was the same (including dxtop installation). I did have to recreate some widgets and reorganize my home screen again, but everything else was kept in tact.

Just my experience, if I'm wrong here, someone PLEASE correct me.

Rooted and have Sholes 2.0.3....i LOVE it. My Droid is running at light-speed @ 800mhz. Easy as pie

Any tips on the perfect Over-clocking settings?!

I rooted last night to Sholes 2.0.3. I did not lose anything and my GDE was still as I left it. I am enjoying the Multitouch browser and Smoked Glass (the widgets fit in with the Obisidian theme in GDE) theme. It is running perfect at 800mhz. To anybody who is doubting whether they can do it...if you can find your way to this thread then you have all the technical expertise you will need.

hey guys I tried doing this today but keep getting an error "mtd: not writing bad block at 0x00140000" any ideals guys?

I have 2 questions about sholes if anyone here can help... 1. What's a ok temp to be running at without hurting this phone I am clocked at 800 and if I am browsing for about 5 min. Or so I will heat up to about 100 degrees. Nomal or not? And also if I wipe my phone to start clean, will I still have root? I saw someone befor saying if you keep flashing ROMs on top of another w/out wiping it can cause some issues and I have flashed the sholes ROM a couple times now trying out different set ups. Thanks to anyone who helps. =)
