Should I be upset about this dirt under my screen.

no. sprint has the best guarantee in the business

Existing customers don't seem to be so lucky,

"When you return or exchange your device, we?ll refund your activation fee. However, in most situations, a $35 restocking fee will be charged."

So they'll give me my $18 back, but turn around and charge me $35. lol.

my dad tried 2 phones before he settled with his blackberry. he had the pre, then a moment, and he finally stuck with the tour. the only thing he had to pay was the difference in pricing between the phones.

That's good to know. I hope that's the case if I have to return mine tomorrow.

I hope they address this issue, if I have had two then then there has to be others. This is a premium device and crap under the screen in less than a week of use is just plain wrong, and most of the time its in a leather HTC case so it never really sees any dirt.

The phone conversation and the email they sent me definitely prove they know something is up. Now whether or not they are going to make it right is another thing.

I guess I will call on Monday. There's no way it came from me, this has to a design flaw of some sort.

Well, since today was my last day to return mine for the dust, and HTC hadn't sent me any new information, I went ahead and exchanged it at Best Buy. Here's the weird part, my new one has a build date older than the one I returned, but it has hardware version 3. The screen is still a little bit raised and the battery cover is still weird, but I couldn't risk going past my 30 days and getting stuck with a refurbished phone if HTC didn't send me a brand new one so I took the risk. Also, Best Buy says I can't return this new one to them if I need to and that I have to contact HTC of Sprint from here on out.

Good, I'm glad it worked out for you. I will be contacting HTC's repair department tomorrow. I give you a heads up.

just throw some dirt on it to make sure it's good and dirty under the screen, then turn it in.

My phone was replaced by HTC and the new one bricked with the update(yes I only down loaded and installed once). Heres the replacement sprint gave me, its better but still there.
