Should I bother getting a T-Bolt at this point?

I upgraded in August to the Thunderbolt. It is a great device. Only phone that has my attention. Does a lot and does it well

Alls i can say is, I put in a tmo and att sim and was able to make calls on the respective networks on the rezound. Tried the same on the Thunderbolt and got nothing.

I don't think you connected to AT&T. Most likely roaming on VZW. Rezounds SoC is Qualcomm MSM8660 which is Cdma + evdo. GSM part numbers from Qualcomm MSMx2xx.

If you don't want to root and flash a rom I wouldn't touch the tbolt. I had one still have it btw and love it but the batt won't last all day if you don't get off stock. It is a fantastic phone but trust me the only way it will work all day (stock) is with a charger or maybe a extended batt not sure about the extended batt. If your willing to root and flash a rom it will far exceed what you want. I still debate going back to mine.

As to the extended battery life question, I took my phone off the charger this morning at 7:30, and my Bolt is at 71% right now (11:41). That's with moderate to heavy usage all day. So yes, I can confirm that this phone will easily last all day with no problem.

When I dialed 611, it dialed att customer service. Also, I tried calling the number for the att sim and it rang. Same when I called using the tmo sim to call 411 and when I tried to have someone call the tmo sim number.

I would look at maybe the dinc 2. Not sure how much it is but I don't think its that much on contract

I was waiting for the Nexus to come out, but decided not to for the moment due to a few bugs here and there. I wanted another phone to use in the mean time to hold me over, but didn't want to be locked into a 2 year plan. I picked up a Thunderbolt off eBay for $150 with a clean ESN, thanks to the advice of a friend. It was in perfect condition. I also purchased the desktop charger, Rezound battery, car dock, and external battery charger from Verizon. Many of the Thunderbolt accessories are at an awesome price from Verizon at the moment. I've been extremely pleased so far.
You might find some good deals on a Thunderbolt, because some people are selling their Thunderbolt to help with bringing down the price of purchasing a Nexus off contract.

You mentioned the Bionic. I had the Bionic prior to my Thunderbolt purchase, and returned it before my 14 day period with Verizon. It kept dropping signals, would randomly reboot, headphone hiss, and the camera quality wasn't that great. A software update from Motorola was rumored to have come out in November that was supposed to fix some of those issues. I'm not sure if they released it. You would have to check the Bionic forum, since I haven't been on there in a while.

Sure it dialed AT&T, doesn't mean you were connected to an AT&T tower. You can call AT&T from any service provider. It's not like they block who you can call. The Rezound cannot connect to GSM network. It physically doesn't not have radios capable of GSM or AT&T's frequencies.

quite a few people are reporting it actually working with a gsm sim (calls, no data) and even showing at&t in the banner. Unless multiple people are trolling, there's definitely something there we're not seeing.

The banner is likely pulled from SIM. It how it worked in Iraq. Change SIM and banner would come up even without connection. Rezound isn't GSM with MSM8660 and MDM9600.

Why would it dial ATT if i dialed 611 from my Rezound? If it's not connecting to an ATT tower, then it should go into Verizon CS. Of course, I can still call att's 800 #, but that wasn't what I did. Same for Tmo.

When selecting the GSM in the network settings with an ATT or TMo sim, it shows ATT or Tmo network using the EDGE network.

Also, so, you're saying that putting in an ATT or Tmo sim, the phone would automatically assume the ATT or Tmo number of the sim somehow? Because like I said before, when I called the ATT or Tmo number associated with the sim from another phone, it rang on my Rezound.

611 is a short cut. The SIM resolves it to the carrier of the SIM, not the tower. 1-800 or 611 for AT&T Cs is the same thing. Just the same as DSN resolution for a website yo iP address.... only SIM is local instead of remote server.

The Banner comes off of SIM even when there is NO connection. Menu selection is what SIM is expecting, not what the phone is capable of. Rezound has no GSM connectivity. Look up the Qualcomm part numbers. Its not magic.

Common sense and technical explanation will get your nowhere around here! :D But you know that already!

So then, how come I was able to receive calls on the number associated with the sim on my Rezound?

The VZW SIM I'm having to guess. CDMA stored in phone. SIM in Rezound is primary for LTE. Secondary is activation/roaming.

Yep...wasting a contract upgrade on the Thunderbolt would be a mistake. Just buy it outright for $50 more or Upgrade to the Rezound for $100 more.

this is totally up to you, but you sound like someone just like I was three months ago. I had an Eris, was/am on a tight budget, and was itching for a better, stronger phone. I've had my Tbolt for 6 weeks now, and with the Stock battery, I'm happy enough with it. i have a car charger, and the option to charge at my desk, so battery life is not an issue for me. if you don't have those types of options, Juice defender will help a user like yourself. with it, you should be able to get about 12 hours out of a single charge, with some tweeks.I use it, and even with heavy usage (netflix, NFL) I have never gone under 40% on my battery. for the type of usage you're looking at, this phone is very suitable and affordable. check Best buy.com and amazon, I believe they both have them for $50.00.

For a cheap tbolt or any other phone, goto Laptops, Cell Phones, Video Games, Cameras, Computers - CowBoom.com . It's owned by bestbuy. The bolt on there is currently selling for $149, buy that and dont waste your VZ upgrade credits.

dpham00 - The tbolt does do simultaneous voice+data over 3G on CDMA quite well. No it's not a world phone supporting GSM, nor does it need to be.

First time hearing about that site. That seems to be an awesome deal.
Are the phones new, used, or refurbished?
