Should I do a factory reset on my Nexus 7 (2012, I think) running Android 5.1

Since upgrading my N7 to A5.1 it has been slow to the point of being close to useless. I see I'm not the only one to have this experience! There seems to be mixed opinion on whether a factory reset solves the problem or not but I can't see any recent updates.
Have I missed something?
Is there a fix?
Is it worth doing a factory reset?
Has there been any response from Google?
